London 2012: The Countdown Series: Shooting Preview!

21 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. This is a preview of the shooting events at the London games.

The venue for the shooting events is the Royal Artillery Barracks (pictured) at Woolrich. 388 men and women representing 105 countries will be in various shooting events in the summer games this year.

On the men's side, Pang Wei is the defending champion of the men's air pistol. Only Wang Yifu has won the event multiple times. Pang is trying to tie that record at London with his second win in the event. There has never been a repeat winner in air rifle, dobule trap, rifle prone, skeet and pistol. David Kostelecky is trying to join Luciano Giovanetti and Michael Diamond with two wins-most in the men's trap at the Olympics. Ralf Schumann's three wins in the men's rapid fire pistol is the most in any of the shooting events in the Olympics. Qiu Jian is trying to tie Malcolm Cooper for most wins in the rifle three positions' event. Cooper has two wins in the Olympics.

On the women's side, there has never been a repeat winner in all but one category-the pistol, where defending Olympic champion Chen Ying is hoping for another Olympic win in that event. Chen's win in the women's pistol would tie Mariya Grodzeva with the most wins in that event with two. Grodzeva is the only women's multiple winner in any event of the shooting at the Olympics.

Up next: a look at archery.
