13 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. This is a preview of the rowing at the London games.
Dorney Lake (or Eton Dorney, pictured) is the venue for the rowing at the London Olympics. 550 men and women representing 58 countries will participate in various rowing events this year.
On the men's side, Poland, defending Olympic champions in the quadruple sculls, are hoping that a win could tie Germany and Italy for most wins in that event, at two. Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter are the defending champions in the lightweight double sculls, in which Tomasz Kucharski and Robert Sycz have won that event twice of the few times the event is run in the Olympics. Great Britain has historically dominated coxless fours as the defending Olympic champions are taking some momentum into their own backyard.
On the women's side, defending Olympics champion Rumyana Neykova hopes to tie Ekaterina Karsten for most wins in the single sculls with two. Twins Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell are hoping to break the mold in the double sculls, where they are tied for most wins with two.
