London 2012: The Countdown Series: Canoe Slalom Preview

16 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. This is a preview of the canoe slalom event at the London games.

The venue of the canoe slalom at the London Olympics is the Lee Valley White Water Centre (pictured). 71 competitors representing 30 countries will participate in the races.

On the men's side, the duo to beat in C2 are the brothers Pavol and Peter Hochschorner. The Hochschorner brothers have dominated the C2 at the last three summer Olympics. As the defending champions of C2 from Beijing 2008, they could go four straight with a win at London. No repeat winner in K1. Alexander Grimm is the defending Olympic champion. Michal Martika is defending Olympic champion in C1 and could tie Tony Estanguet's win mark in C1 with a win in the final. Estanguet has two wins in C1 in the Olympics.

On the women's side, Elena Kaliska could break the mold in K1 with a win in the final. She is tied for most wins in K1 with Stepanka Hilgertova. Both have two each.

Up next: a look at canoe sprint.
