London 2012: The Countdown Series: Diving Preview

Can't you believe it? Only ten days until the first activity of the London Olympics! This is a preview of the diving at the London games.

Like other indoor aquatic events sanctioned by Fina, diving events will be held in the London Aquatics Centre (pictured). 138 male and female divers, representing 25 countries, will compete this year.

On the men's side, He Chong, defending Olympics champion in the 3m springboard, hopefully is eyeing another win, which would tie Xing Ni and Greg Louganis for most wins in 3m springboard with two. China has won 10m synchronised platform and 3m synchronised springboard the last couple of years with different pairings.

On the women's side, Chin Ruolin, defending Olympics champion in the 10m platform, could tie for most wins in that event with a gold. Two is the most wins in this event, shared by Dorothy Poynton Hill, Pat McCormick and Fu Mingxia. Guo Jingjing has won the 3m springboard at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. No one has won three times in that class, in which two is the most wins in that class, shared by Fu, McCormick, Ingrid Kramer, and Gao Min. China has won 10m synchronised platform the all three times the event has taken place in the summer games since Sydney 2000, while the Chinese also won the last two Olympics in the 3m synchronised springboard with both Guo and Wu Minxia.

Up next: a look at rhythmic gymnastics.
