London 2012: The Countdown Series: Badminton Preview

17 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. This is a preview of the badminton at the London games.


The Wembley Arena (pictured) is the venue of the badminton at the London games. 316 competitors from 57 countries will be there to compete in various matches throughout the tournament.

On the men's side, there has never been a repeat winner in singles or doubles play. Lin Dan is the reigning Olympic champion in the singles, while Markis Kido and Hendra Setiavan are the reigning Olympic chapion in the doubles.

On the women's side, Zhang Ning has won the last two Olympics-Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008-in the singles, most wins in that event, while Du Jing and Yu Yang are trying to tie Ge Fei and Gu Jun for most wins in the doubles. Ge and Gu have two Olympic wins.

Lee Hyo Jun gnad Lee Yong Dae are trying to tie Gao Ling and Zhang Jun for most wins in the mixed doubles. Gao and Zhang have two wins in mixed doubles, most in that event.
