Seven (Maybe Eight) NFL Coaches Fired on One Day!

Link.

What a bloodbath on "Black Monday." Surprised to see Smith go, since the Bears missed the playoffs at 10-6. However I am NOT surprised regarding Turner, Crennel, Gailey and especially Reid.

Happy new year.

Fontella Bass, who recorded "Rescue Me," her best song in 1965, passed away on Wednesday in a St. Louis hospice at the age of 72. "Rescue Me" was used in film and TV shows and advertisements and was such a brilliant song of the 1960s.

Stay safe this upcoming weekend. Happy new year.

Wayne Lapierre: Newtown Shooting "Blamed on Media"

Agreed?

Also calls for mentally ill database. Should also call for child molester database as well, but what will that do to gun control? Absolutely nothing. Pedos also are gun owners you know, but still won't do anything, since the Second Amendment is there as the framers laid out once the Constitution was drafted in 1787.

The Mayans Are Still Fools.

So, the Mayans believed that today was the day our world would end. Yeah fucking right. We are all still alive. A religious cult got thwarted by Argentinian authorities, but that's pretty much it.

Anyway, to some who believed that the world would end today, seek help.

Even you, Australian PM Julia Gillard.

Friday Jukebox 12.21.12

The aforementioned post was about who qualified for EUROVISION LVIII at Malmo in May. Speaking of the competition, this past year saw the Hungarian electronic band Compact Disco represent their country at Baku, making it to the final with "Sound of Our Hearts." Last year, they released their album, II, featuring a track that I found that is just as extremely awesome as "Sound of Our Hearts." From II, here's "Feel the Rain."

Merry Christmas wherever you are. Travel and drive safely.

EUROVISION LVIII Update: Who's Headed to Malmo, So Far?

Finally some credible hip hop at ESC this year as Who See? has been personally handpicked by the Montenegrin ESC committee to represent their country at Malmo in May. This past year, I underestimated the Trackshittaz (AUT), but now this is an upgrade. Rap doesn't get a whole love from those who follow the competition, so it will be a huge challenge.

Who See? joins six others who have either qualified for or handpicked to represent their countries at ESC LVIII:

Who See? (MNE) "Reggaeton Montenegro!"
Alyona Lanskaya (BLR) "Rhythm of Love"
Anouk (NED) TBA
Heilsarmee (SUI) "You and Me"
El Sueno de Morfeo (ESP) TBA
Andrius Pojavis (ESP) "Something"
Roberto Bellarosa (BEL) "Love Kills"
Four nations who were in Baku back in May, as of now have withdrawn: Slovakia, Portugal, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Turkey.

As the months progress, stay with this blog for more ESC updates. The Road to Malmo is NOW!

The Mayans Will Be Wrong?

For those who believe Friday is the end of the world, let me say this, I can now finally say that Friday is simply the END of the Mayan calendar. Rest assured, we will all live on.

Y2K and all these other gimmicks were put ons by the paranoid press. Ignore them.

There Was a Fight and a Parliamentary Session Broke Out.

Take a close look at Vitali Klychko (Klitschko)'s wise decision to avoid involvement in this parliamentary fight in Kiev:

He would've knocked everyone's asses out in there!

Jim DeMint's Vacant Senate Seat Goes To...

US Congressman Tim Scott. As handpicked by Gov. Haley herself. I wonder why Gov. Haley didn't even thought about the seat herself?

Remember, Jim DeMint resigned to take a job at the Heritage Foundation. So I think it's a good move for someone like Rep. Scott to take the seat. But who will replace him in the House?

See Rod Blagojevich, this is how you properly replace an existing and outgoing Senator!

2012 Wrangler NFR Review!

During the last week and a half, I was saturated with papers and finals. However, I did manage to catch some of the nights of this year's NFR on GAC without spoilers.

Congrats to all of the winners this year. Trevor Brazile getting another all-around buckle and earnings are continue to pile high, almost to $5 million. Tuf Cooper winning another world title in tie-down, Luke Branquinho fighting a knee injury to win another world title in steer wrestling, and a close finish in the top of the standings of saddle bronc that almost saw Cody DeMoss win a world buckle. It was DeMoss' flawless 10 for 10 qualifying rides in saddle bronc that did win him a buckle for being number one in the average!

And out of all of this, comes Mary Walker, who lost her horse and went to an emotional stage in life to win the average and came away with a world buckle in WPRA barrel racing. You knew the tears were running down her face when she was awarded the buckle on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack.

Sadly, this year's NFR will most likely be Fred Whitfield's last, despite barely qualifying for this year's event. He has been there 20 times, and won the tie-down world buckle seven times. He has a book coming out too, so keep an eye out on it.

For the second year in a row, GAC carried all ten nights, 'live'. Although I didn't like how it was stretched to believe it was 'live,' at least yet again, Geronimo and their staff, actually upgraded their presentation from what ESPN/Winnercomm had prior to 2011, simply by showing every cowboy, whereas during ESPN coverage, some of the cowboys went during break. Well done, but I wish that the coverage is actually 'live' in the near future, not delayed.

Overall, despite the nights that were conflicted with the combat sports, it was yet another good NFR. Even the prca commissioner said that their fans are the "most educated in sports." Take that Zuffa Zombies!

Mass Shootings and Gun Control: An Editorial.

Thursday and Friday saw the US experience back to back mass shootings. On Thursday, a shooter fired on patrons at a mall near Portland, Oregon, and then on Friday, a man kills his mom, then takes it out on an elementary school. The rest is history.

Two weeks ago, at the halftime of the Cowboys game on Sunday night, Bob Costas was talking about gun control at the light of the Jovan Belcher murder-suicide that very same weekend and why he called for gun control. I think I posted a video on this blog. Now two weeks later after Costas' controversial comments, I wonder what he thinks about the events in Oregon and Connecticut within the past 48 hours?

No state can ban guns, because it is a violation of one's Second Amendment rights (The right to bear arms). However, these were unprovoked incidents. The individual should only use a gun whenever he/she is attacked first by the opposition. The gun is then used in defense. This is how a gun is properly used, besides to shoot down various wildlife, such as ducks (of course).

The nature of violence among gun owners is traced to past history of the individual, between the individual and families as well as others. They are motivated more by culture than anything else. The music they listen to, whether the individual is a gamer by playing such titles as the Call of Duty series, and other factors that culturally motivate one to go this far.

If you're a gun owner, and you hate how the world works, seek help immediately. This will help the individual move forward without taking it out on others in an unprovoked manner. Again, no need for states to ban guns, simply on the premise that it will violate Second Amendment rights. Proper training and education to how to use guns in certain situations as a defense to fight back against perpetrators makes the individual understand how to use the gun properly.

So, Bob, do you now get the point?

This past week, we lost a great virtuoso in Ravi Shankar. Like Joe Satriani is to guitar, Ravi Shankar was a sitar virtuoso, whose career spanned over various decades. Ravi Shankar died earlier this week at the age of 92. In honor of his great career, here is the entire Recorded in London LP from 1964.

BELLATOR 84: Heavyweight Championship, Lightweight Tournament Final and Farewell MTV2, Hello SPIKE!

A title fight and a tournament final is on the bill for Friday Night's Season 7 finale of BELLATOR Fighting Championships.

The vacant heavyweight title-formerly held by Cole Konrad, who just recently announced his retirement-is now on the line between Rich Hale and Alex Volkov. Also, the lightweight tournament final with Dave Jansen and Marcin Held is scheduled for the night. Michael Chandler and his belt awaits both in a future date.

The featherweight tournament final has now been pushed to early 2013. It was supposed to be on last Friday, but Shahbulat Shamhalaev had food poisoning. The New Jersey State Athletic Commission cancelled the fight on behalf of Shamhalaev since they (not the promoter) has the right to do so. It was supposed to be on Friday night, but Rad Martinez had family issues, so it's now a go for early 2013.

Also this is the last BELLATOR event on MTV2 as the promotion upgrades to SPIKE next month. MMA is Coming Home to Spike.

Live on MTV2 and epixHD for the last time. UFC on FX is on as well at 8pm Central.

MLS Cup 2012 On Saturday!

Are you ready for some football? Of course I am! It's the 17th annual MLS Cup on Saturday as this time it's a rematch from last year between the Dynamo and Galaxy (Galaxy won).

It is believed that this could be David Beckham's last game with the Galaxy as he is pursuing to move on, possibly with a contract back across the pond. But what club will he play for? Who knows.

As for the game itself, it's in the Galaxy's backyard, like last year. Who knows, the Dynamo is out for revenge!

Argos!!!

Congrats to the Toronto Argonauts as they won the 100th Grey Cup, defeating Calgary 34-14 on home turf Sunday.

Chad Kaeckert was MVP with almost 200 on the ground, while Ricky Foley, with a sack and four tackles is the Most Valuable Canadian.

Ricky Ray got another ring, so did Noel Prefontaine. Ex-Rider guard Marc Parenteau finally got his. Remember 2010 Grey Cup? He scored the game's first touchdown!

Good game, better than the Sunday Night NFL affair. Glad to watch it here in the states on NBC Sports Network.

Larry Hagman, 81, J.R. Ewing

Link.

He was also on I Dream of Jeannie and the short-lived CBS series Orleans, from the mid '90s, where he played a courtroom judge.

But everyone knows him best as J.R. Ewing. The scene that made him famous was the season 3 episode "A House Divided" where he got shot in the back. In the 4th season (1980-81), J.R.'s assailant was revealed:

Almost three decades later, Larry spoke of the scene:

Dallas was cancelled at the 1990-91 season after 14 seasons on CBS. Two telemovies passed (both ran on CBS) and over a decade later, returned with the re-vamped version on TNT last year (both Bobby and Sue Ellen also came back for the reboot).

He has battled various illnesses, but yesterday lost the fight.

Friday Jukebox 11.23.12

After watching those NFL Play60 ads from Thanksgiving day, and doing careful research, I came upon the song used in the ad: "The Whip" by Locksley, from their 2010 album Be in Love. Also note, this is the goal song for the NHL's Dallas Stars. Mega win too.

Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) Moment #5: The 13th Man

As the Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) centenary approches on Sunday, here is the last Grey Cup moment that I thought of was the "13th Man" game in 2009. I was so pissed off of the mistake the Roughriders special teams coach did when Duval went for the field goal:

Still haunting Rider Nation to this day.

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Happy Thanksgiving!

That is all.

Stay safe when you travel around the country.

Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) Moment #4: Dinwiddie Dinwiddled

Another Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) moment is the 2007 game, played at SkyDome, site of the game on Sunday. It was a rough day for one Ryan Dinwiddie:

That was the Riders' 4th Cup in their 100+ years of existence. First Grey Cup since 1989.

Sadly to this date, it is the last CFL game ever for the CBC, as all games in the CFL are exclusive to TSN, including the Grey Cup Centenary on Sunday.

What strikes me is that Michaels is older than Consiglio. Even though she is phasing out from the broadcasting industry, I only hope Consiglio moves to a bigger market...probably Portland (if he wants to stay in the state).

Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) Moment #3: Grey Cup Heads South

With the Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) centenary approaching this Sunday, here's another Grey Cup  moment that popped up in my head is the 1995 game. The game is historical, considering that the Baltimore Stallions won the game. Here's a clip from the opening moments of the game, played at Taylor Field Regina (Mosaic Stadium):

The Stallions (now in Montreal) are the first and only US franchise during this time to win a Grey Cup. Sadly, 1995 was the final year of the US expansion era.

Brandi Sherwood (Cochran), Come on Down!

The actual retail price of the winnings is $777,000! (insert random TPIR 'clangs and whoops' sound)

Actually, this is the umpteenth time the current version of TPIR has been hit with a lawsuit since the show got reincarnated in 1972 as The New Price is Right. Three original Barker's beauties, then a couple others since. Something is in the water there at TPIR.

Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) Moment #2: Lui at the Foot

United States Grand Prix 2012: My Thoughts.

Some thoughts from the race:
  • Yes folks, Rick Perry and David Dewhurst presented the trophies to Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, the top two finishers at the USGP.
  • Kudos to the management at Circuit of the Americas.  Without no flaws (as opposed to Indy), the facility was top notch and ready for racing.
  • It's great that such a race was clean, no hard crashes, and no safety car periods (all 56 laps were green, maybe a local caution or two).
  • Vettel will have to wait until Sunday at Rio to clinch his second driver's title, now only 20 ahead of Fernando Alonso.
  • 120,000+ in attendance, but not one mention on ESPN on either its website or on Sportscenter. Sad, considering that ESPN used to do F1 races.
  • Only two retirees including Mark Webber's late problems. Great for such a race. I wished all 24 would have ran at the finish (including both HRT cars).
  • The celebrity factor seemed to be at Austin than at Homestead for the Sprint Cup finale and race weekend there. Patrick Dempsey (who is also a racer) was there, so was a bunch of others. Mario Andretti, former F1 champ, spoke to the top three finishers on the podium!
  • SPEED TV's coverage was great.
  • If you missed out on this race by watching NFL early action, shame on you. You suck.
Finally, all above is why I hope F1 returns to COTA in the years to come. Welcome back to America, F1.

Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) Moments: 1989

Since the Grey Cup Centenary is Sunday, I thought that throughout the week I have personally handpicked some of the best moments in Grey Cup (Coupe Grey) history. The final between the Stamps and Argos in Toronto is Sunday.

The first one that came into my mind is the 1989 final between the Ti-Cats and Riders, which came down to the wire:

Rover-back Glen Suitor, currently an analyst with TSN, was the holder. Had to get it out. Also it was at SkyDome, where the final is played this Sunday.

Forget about the tomfoolery down at Homestead-Miami, this is world class shit here! Less than 90 minutes away! The return of Formula 1 to the United States is here. The practices, qualifying, tests and track preparation at Circuit of the Americas is kicking in and now the true test awaits us!

USGP 2012: Vettel on Pole! Race Sunday!

Saturday's qualifying session showed why once again defending Formula One driver's champion Sebastian Vettel is great in qualifying. The Toro Rosso driver nabbed another pole position in 2012, as he is P1 for Sunday's United States Grand Prix. All 24 drivers were above the 107% qualifying rate imposed by FIA.

Tune in and watch the race on Speed at 12:30pm Central Sunday. F1 is back in the USA.

CFL Divisional Final Sunday 2012

For four teams, this is the weekend. The weekend to prove themselves that they are Grey Cup material. The defending Cup champs will headline the division final Sunday with the Lions hosting the Stampeders, while the Alouettes host the Argonauts in the East final.

Conference finals
WEST
Lions v Stampeders

EAST
Alouettes v Argonauts

Both games will air LIVE and exclusively to TSN, the official broadcaster for the Grey Cup Centenary next Sunday. NBC Sports Network will carry both in delay on Sunday. CFL.ca is where you want the live timing and scoring.
