London 2012: The Countdown Series: Malaysia

119 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Up next on the parade of nations: Malaysia (MAS).

Malaysia has participated in the summer Olympics since 1956. A total of four medals have been won by Malaysian athletes in these summer games.

Malaysia despite no gold medals won at all in the Olympics period, has been a badminton hotspot. All four medals have been won by Malaysian badminton players. Lee Chong Wei (pictured) lost to Lin Dan (CHN) in the men's singles final at Beijing 2008. Chea Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock both lost in the men's doubles final to Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagja (INA) at Atlanta 1996.

Talani Sidek Mohamed and Razif Sidek Mohamed won men's doubles badminton bronze at Barcelona, while Rashid Sidek Mohamed won bronze at Atlanta 1996 by defeating Harianto Arbi (INA) for third place in the men's singles of badminton.

As of now, 17 Malaysian athletes are headed to London to compete in four events, including cycling.
