The Top Ten Stars of London 2012!

The London Olympics may be done and over with, but that doesn't mean there are some winners that came of those nineteen days of the Games of the XXX Olympiad. In fact, these ten stars have earned the utmost respect this year for what they did.

And now ladies and gentlemen, the top ten stars of the Games of the XXX Olympiad.

10. Artur Taymazov.

Taymazov joins Alex Karelin as wrestlers who have won three in a row in a class. Taymazov won the 120kg freestyle class this year, as well as Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, making him Uzbekistan's most decorated Olympian.

9. Andy Murray.

Despite finishing runner-up at Wimbledon early July in the men's singles, he had payback from his Wimbledon final opponent, Roger Federer, in the gold medal final, and it paid off. He won gold and unofficially (despite the fact that it's not The Championships at Wimbledon) became the first British to win in almost 75 years at the All-England Lawn & Tennis Club. Andy is still searching for a grand slam, and with the U.S. Open later this month (August 27), hopefully it will pay off.

8. Kerri Walsh Jennings & Misty May Treanor.

Former FIVB world #1's, they entered the Olympics tournament #3 in FIVB rankings. However it's their inspirational play throughout the tourney is why they will both finish with three gold medals in a row. Quite possibly, the most successful team in Olympic beach volleyball, since the sport was included in the summer games at Atlanta 1996. May Treanor is expected to retire, while Walsh Jennings is looking for a partner for future events-including AVP tour and FIVB events as well.

7. USA women's water polo team.

The men have done it before, and now it's the women's turn. It is the first gold medal for the women since women's play was instituted in the summer games beginning at Sydney 2000. A very surprising run and despite being overshadowed by-let's say-the artistic gymnastics' (so-called) 'Fab Five', they have won my hearts more than any of the USA teams in team sports period at London. Credit the Steffens sisters, captain Brenda Villa, as well as a other key components including goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong, the best goalkeeper of the tournament. They could repeat at Rio.

6. Oussama 'Ous' Mellouli.

His win in the men's 10km open water marathon made him the first swimmer in Olympic history to win swimming old in the pool and in open water. Note, Ous was the former world record holder in the men's 1500m freestyle, and won gold at Beijing 2008 in that event, however at London, he won the bronze in the 1500m free final.

5. Mohammed 'Mo' Farah.

Ladies and gentlemen, your new long distance race king! His gold victories in the 5000m and 10000m are the reason why anyone can say that. No argument. Not sure if it's a first, but it was an historic one.

4. Sir Chris Hoy OBE

Add two gold medals to track cycling's most decorated cyclist to date. His wins in men's keirin and team sprint has boosted his Olympic gold count to six. At Rio, hopefully he could add some more! A truly underrated athlete.

3. Usain Bolt.

First to win 100m and 200m since Carl Lewis at Barca '92. Everybody loves him (or hates him) for his cockiness after going after Carl Lewis, but he is a fun athlete. The poses, the post race celebrations (see his poses, especially at the IAAF World's in '09 with Berlino), what can you like about the man? And he was a last minute addition to the 4x100m final on Saturday. No doubt about it, he will be the star of Rio 2016, if he qualifies.

2. Michael Phelps.

FINALLY, he broke Larysa Latynina's record of most medals in the Olympics. At 34, his swan song will include a total of 22 medals, including a gold win in the 4x100m medley relay, what is said to be his final race in the pool. Godspeed Michael, it's was a great ride and good luck on your future endeavors. Please don't listen to Debbie.

And the #1 star of the London games is...

Oscar Pistorius.

It's about testament and the willpower just to qualify. In the 400m, made the semifinals and finished last. Afterward, eventual gold medalist Kirani James and Pistorius both exchanged tags as display of sportsmanship. Oscar would run the 4x100m final as the anchor for South Africa and finished last. A true testament for someone like him to qualify against able-bodied athletes. He is heavily favored in the Paralympics next weekend.

The honorable mentions on the All-Morgan London Olympics Team:
  • Bulgaria men's volleyball. Surprising run to the semifinals. Hopefully more to come from them before and at Rio 2016.
  • Montenegro women's handball. First Olympics that the Montenegrin women qualified for in women's handball and went straight to the final, only to lose to Norway. Great job by the coaching staff and the players.
  • Maris Strombergs. Going back to back as the only men's BMX champion in the Olympics.
  • Ashton Eaton. Continuing the US streak of gold medalists in the decathlon.
  • Jordan Burroughs and Jacob Varner, continuing the US gold medal streaks in wrestling.
  • Mijain Lopez, going back to back gold medals in 120kg Greco-Roman.
  • The under-17s. Ruta Meilutyte, Katie Ledecky, Missy Franklin, all first time gold medalists in the pool. Especially Franklin, who won four gold medals, including the 200m back where she broke Kirsty Coventry's world record (Coventry finished sixth in that final).
  • Mexico men's football, first medal since the country hosted the summer games in 1968.
If there's anything else you guys think impressed you a lot at London 2012, drop a comment.
