London 2012: Day Eight Review!

Some thoughts from day 8...
  • Croatia/Czech Republic women's basketball match looked great, however the Croats, just like against USA, began to gas out in the final quarter. The same with the Turks against the US, where they were competitive for most of the first half and started to gas just about halfway in the second.
  • It was the last day of the men's football. Quarterfinals are on Friday, with Brazil taking on Honduras, Great Britain against South Korea, Japan against Egypt and Mexico against Senegal. Great Britain will definitely win it all. Hopefully.
  • For us in the states, we heard 'Doc' Emrick on play by play USA/Spain women's water polo on his 66th birthday on NBC. Happy belated birthday 'Doc'! However, Spain's epic comeback stalled and the match ends up in a draw. A very questionable result for both the US and Spain.
  • I heard a boxing result and a highway robbery by the judges? And credit to Teddy Atlas of NBC for ripping apart the current AIBA scoring system!
  • Even more world records in swimming! Daniel Gyurta in the 200m breast and Rebecca Soni in the 200m breast second semifinal heat, where Soni broke her own record from the FINA championships in Rome in 2009! More records could fall by the end of the event this weekend.
  • Yo Adrian! Nathan Adrian wins gold!
  • This doubles match where Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych won at Wimbledon Wednesday surpassed Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Milos Raonic's third round marathon as the longest match in Olympic tennis history! Congrats to all four!
  • The 'Fab 5' who won gold in artistic gymnastics should be called the 'Fantastic Five' for a reason: not to confuse basketball purists in which the REAL 'Fab Five' were all regular starters in the 1990-91 men's basketball season at the University of Michigan.
  • Congrats to Bradley Wiggins and Kristin Armstrong, time trial champions!
  • FINALLY! Great Britain wins gold, and before Wiggins, Team GB won gold in the women's pairs rowing! Congrats!
Day 9 today is the first day for track cycling!
