London 2012: Day Ten Review!

Some thoughts from day 10-the halfway point of the Olympics:
  • Ladies and gentlemen, a woman has dunked in Olympic play! Australia/Russia women's match saw Opals center Liz Cambage dunk. Cambage-I think-is about 6'7" and dunked! I looked at the footage and I thought she traveled. But wow! There's a first in Olympic play-I think.
  • French women's basketball team continue to play competively and won their second game-ironically in overtime!
  • The young gun movement in the pool! First it's Ruta Meilutyte, then Missy Franklin and now enter Katie Ledecky. Ledecky was on pace to break Dame Becky Adlington's world record in 800m free (remember Adlington broke Janet Evans' record at Beijing). Ledecky is 15 and is (I think) younger than Meilutyte, who is also 15!
  • Speaking of Franklin, she broke Kirsty Coventry's world record in 200m back on Friday night! And Coventry finished sixth. Remember Coventry didn't have a good Fina World championships and was somewhat battling injuries (I think), and made the final!
  • The age factor in swimming. Under 18's winning races and setting world records are nothing new. It has been done for years. For example, Janet Evans won 800m free at Los Angeles 1984 at age 17! So the physical demands will get to the swimmers once they get in a later age, where retirement is in the plan. Just ask Michael Phelps, who at 34, is retiring after London 2012.
  • Phelps hits blackjack! 21st medal, that is presumably gold! Please be sure to follow his mom (the world's biggest 'Phelps Phan') on twitter (@MamaPhelpsH20)!
  • Athletics began yesterday and ended with the exciting finish in the women's 10,000m final, where four runners battled and Tirunesh Dibaba in her mind said: "I'm getting out of here!" That is where she started to take off! Huge margin of victory.
  • Team GB women's football lost to...Canada? Canada? The host country for the 2015 World Cup? What happened here? Anyway, the women are in semifinal mode on Monday, with Japan (defending WC champs) and France in the first match, and US/Canada on Monday Night Football (8:45pm local kickoff)!
  • Don't care about the women's singles final at Wimbledon, but Sunday I'll have more interest in the men's final. Breakfast at Wimbledon. Murray and FedEx. Murray, do it for the world.
  • Kendrick Farris finished 10th in 85kg. After his performance, he was followed on twitter (@KendrickJFarris) by of all people-the most hated professional wrestler of within the last five years-John Cena. No explanation necessary.
  • NBC, PLEASE do not air ads during football, hockey or handball events! These events do not have the capacity to allow ads to air during play. Japan scored yesterday to go up 2-0 in quarterfinal play whilst NBC Sports Network was on commercial break! Why NBC why?
  • At the halfway point, USA 43, China 42, Russia 23. Medal count.
Today is the last day for swimming, while wrestling begins (I think) on Sunday.
