London 2012: Day Nineteen and Closing Ceremonies Review!

Some thoughts from day 19 (the final day) and closing ceremonies:
  • USA Basketball doing it again, and once again, was another bullet they dodged thanks to heavy shooting from KD late in the second half. Just like with Lietuva, Espana did challenged and stimulated the USA men's senses but at the end it was the frequent field goal shooting plus the miscues that shot Espana in the foot. Well done, and Russia won the bronze medal match.
  • Brazil/Russia men's volleyball final was such a thriller. What a comeback by Russia to win in five sets. Oh, and Italy won bronze in their match over Bulgaria.
  • Croatia wins gold in men's water polo? You heard that right. Once they got to a three goal lead in the fourth, it was over. Serbia defeated Montenegro for the bronze earlier.
  • France held off Sweden in the thriller in men's handball gold medal match. What a match!
  • Add one more wrestling gold for USA Wrestling-Jacob Varner-who won the 96kg freestyle!
  • Congrats to Laura Asadauskaite, who won the women's modern pentathlon!
  • The closing ceremonies:
    • Best parts: Spice Girls, The Who, Fatboy Slim, Annie Lennox, Eric Idle, and Pet Shop Boys.
    • Worst parts: Taio Cruz, Jessie J, Take Five and Tinie Temprah.
    • What would I'd love to see: Sophie Ellis Bextor, Florence + the Machine, Faithless, Engelbert Humperdinck, Napalm Death, Mike Skinner & the Streets, Iron Maiden (they're British, right?), Sonique, even Rick Astley.
    • What would I'd don't want to see: Blackout Crew.
  • Oscar Pistorius, Ben Ainslie and Ous Mellouli among the flag bearers for their respective countries at the closing ceremonies.
  • I felt that LOCOG did a great job with these Olympics and hopefully they will be awarded another summer games soon.
  • Overall medal count: United States 109, China 87, Russia 82. Team GB has 65 medals, including two golds from Sir Chris Hoy and two golds from Mo Farah!
  • 34 of 42 EUROVISION LVII countries medaled at the end-except Albania, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Iceland, Israel, Macedonia, Malta and San Marino.
  • So that's a wrap on the Games of the XXX Olympiad. XXX as in '30' in Roman numerals. What do you think this was? Porno? Nope. Anyway, Sochi is 18 months away and we are all going to talk skiing, speed skating, luge, bobsled, biathlon, curling and ice hockey!!!

THE END

Later, I will present to you, my top ten stars of the London games!
