London 2012: Day Eighteen Review!

Some thoughts from day 17:
  • Mo Farah wins again! Not only the 10,000m but also the 5,000m! Truly the new long distance king in athletics!
  • The drive for five is reality! Congrats to the USA women's basketball team and their dominating performance over France to make that possible.
  • Watching women's high jump and wondering where is Blanka Vlasic? She has been hurt and didn't even make it to London.
  • The USA women's volleyball will have to wait until Rio to taste gold. Won the first set, but the Brazilians dominated. Simple as that.
  • Tranny Caster Semenya passed by three runners to finish...silver in the women's 800m final. She has been out of athletics for eleven months due to 'gender issues.'
  • The men's modern pentathlon winner: David Svoboda.
  • Norway held off a feisty Montenegro squad in the women's handball final to go back to back as gold medalists. Montenegro's first gold medal final and will probably hear a lot more from this squad in the near future.
  • Mexico wins gold in men's football in a crowd at Wembley that is nearly filled to capacity. Remember, the NFL returns there in October.
  • Germany wins gold again in men's hockey!
  • One more world record on the track: men's 4x100m as Jamaica breaks their own world record that they set at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu last September.
  • Congrats to Artur Taymazov, going back to back gold medals in the 120kg (heavyweight) class of freestyle wrestling with his win on Saturday. He won gold in that class at Beijing 2008.
Today is the nineteenth and last day of the London Olympics. Men's basketball, volleyball, water polo and handball finals as well as women's modern pentathlon. Closing ceremonies also tonight as well to bring down the curtain to the Games of the XXX Olympiad.
