Some thoughts from day 17:
- Bahamas won men's 4x400 with a runner named Chris Brown. Ironic. Oh, and Oscar Pistorius was the anchor for the South African team in that final. He will be back for the Paralympics next week.
- In the women's 1500m, it appeared that there could have been incidental contact between Abeba Aregawi and Morgan Uceny that sent Uceny down to the ground and crying. Would have wished for the USA Track & Field to file a protest to IAAF. It appeared as if Aregawi tripped Uceny down on purpose and would have been disqualified.
- Philly native Jordan Burroughs, who won 74kg freestyle and continuing USA Wrestling's streak of gold medalists in the Olympics, has a twitter handle: @alliseeisgold. You figure that one out.
- Men's water polo final. No Hungary. No USA. No Serbia. However it's Italy/Croatia.
- Bulgaria's men's volleyball golden run came to an end, as they will play for bronze. Russia/Italy on Sunday for gold.
- The men's pole vault world record-held by Sergey Bubka-is still untouched.
- Dutch women win gold in the hockey! Match was over since early second half.
- Spain v United States and the USA's winning streak in the gold medal match Sunday. Russia/Argentina for bronze.
- Sweden/France for gold in handball Sunday.
- South Korea wins bronze in men's football and all are exempt from military service in that country.
- Ous Mellouli can get it done outdoors. Former gold medalist and world record holder in the men's 1500m freestyle won the men's 10km open water marathon Friday. First to win gold swimming indoor and outdoor in the Olympics, for the man who won bronze in the 1500m freestyle last Saturday.
- Finally, per her twitter, two-time Olympic gold medalist (in the 200m back) Kirsty Coventry tweeted that she got engaged on Friday. Congrats. Truly, a diamond is better than gold.
- 33 of the 42 EUROVISION Song Contest LVII participating countries have medaled so far. Those who haven't (or won't) medal: Albania, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Iceland, Israel, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro and San Marino.
