London 2012: Day Seven Review!

Some thoughts from day 7...
  • My oh my! What a match in the third set between Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Milos Raonic. This was a third round match, and it was 25-23 in the third set, the longest set in Olympic history. The match itself lasted four hours. To this day, it's the greatest match in Olympic tennis history hands down.
  • Congrats to Michael Phelps, at a medal count of 19, is now the most decorated athlete in Olympic history. Too bad Larysa Latynina couldn't show up to see it (she is planning to attend the games later this week).
  • The quarterfinals for women's football is set. Sweden/France, New Zealand/United States, Brazil/Japan and Great Britain/Canada. I'm hoping for a Japan-USA rematch from the Women's World Cup final.
  • Chad Le Clos' win in the 200m fly final is proof that South African swimming isn't dead.
  • USA men's basketball strong as usual.
  • Surprisingly, Hungary lost to Montenegro in men's water polo.
  • Even more surprisingly, Poland, one of the top programs in men's volleyball, lost to Bulgaria in four sets!
  • USA women's hockey and men's volleyball looked great.
  • Did you know that gymnast Yordan Yovtchev, at 39, is still competing? Seriously, he is. For the record, Yovtchev replaced Tsvetana Pironkova (who got knockout out of the women's singles second round on Tuesday) as the flag bearer for Bulgaria in the opening ceremonies.
  • Women's 200m IM final had to be the best race in the pool Tuesday night, considering the fact that there was an ongoing rivalry that carried over from Beijing-Stephanie Rice and Kirsty Coventry. Neither one finished on podium (Ye Schwen wins gold, Alicia Coutts silver and Caitlin Leverenz bronze). Remember, with the rumor that Ye is doping, if she gets DQ'd, Rice would most likely get bronze.
Day 8 will feature the last day of men's football along with the first day of the road cycling time trials!
