London 2012: Day Sixteen Review!

Some thoughts from day 16:
  • Jamaican trifecta. Men's 200m final, where it wasn't an exacta either. Here's how the podium stacked up in the men's 200m:
    • WIN: Usain Bolt
    • PLACE: Yohan Blake
    • SHOW: Warren Weir
    • If you picked all three, you win money. If you picked all three in order, you win more money! Just like your local thoroughbred track!
  • American dominance again in decathlon! For the second consecutive year, an American wins decathlon! Ashton Eaton, the world record holder (his world record from the US Olympic Trials last month still stands) wins his first gold, and Trey Hardee silver!
  • Golden day for our USA women! Water polo wins gold in a big way over Spain, and football gets redemption from World Cup 2011 by defeating Japan for gold! But please give the water polo women some attention. It's their first gold. The women footballers have won gold before. No offense here.
  • France vs United States for the gold in women's basketball Saturday. The USA women's winning streak is on the line as well. Russia/Opals for bronze.
  • Women's boxing...oh wait it's their first Olympics. The biggest pops at ExCeL were for Nicola Adams and Katie Taylor. End of story.
  • Just like Bulgaria in men's volleyball, Montenegro's women handball is making a surprising run. They're heading to the final against Norway on Saturday!
  • The men's hockey final set on Saturday-Netherlands v Germany.
  • USA's women have never won gold in volleyball. They will now get their chance Saturday against Brazil in the final.
  • Congrats to Jonas Reckermann and Julius Brink as they won gold in men's beach volleyball in a thrilling three set finish over a Brazilian duo.
Don't forget! Today will feature men's basketball semifinals, men's handball semifinals, men's volleyball semifinals, women's hockey final and men's water polo semifinals!
