Nigeria has participated in the summer Olympics since 1952. 23 medals have been won by Nigerian athletes in the summer games, including three gold medals.

At Sydney 2000, their most recent gold medal came in the form of the men's 4x400m relay (athletics) for the men, with Clement Chukwu, Jude Monye, Sunday Bada and Enefiok Udo-Obang.

As of now, 27 Nigerian athletes are headed to London and will compete in six events, including athletics, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
