London 2012: The Countdown Series: Democratic People's Republic of Korea

107 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Up next on the parade of nations: Democratic People's Republic of Korea (PRK).

The DPRK (or North Korea) has participated in the summer Olympics since 1972, and 41 medals have been won by their athletes in these summer games; ten of those medals being gold medals.

Kim Il is the only multiple gold medalist from North Korea, with two gold medals. The wrestler won gold in the freestyle light-flyweight class at Barcelona 1992 and again at Atlanta 1996.

Pak Hyon Suk (pictured) is one of the most recent gold medalists in the Olympic games from North Korea. The weightlifter won gold in the women's middleweight class.

As of now, 36 North Korean athletes are headed to London to compete in eight events-including athletics, wrestling, and weightlifting. Women's football (soccer) has qualified for the London games as well.

Up next: Norway
