Here is your First Subject...Go! Dick Clark (1929-2012), a Retrospective: Part 1

Dick Clark on the set of the $25,000 Pyramid, filmed at CBS Television City in Hollywood, California, by Bob Stewart/BASADA Inc. 1982-88.

Dick Clark died today (4/18), after a heart attack. He was 82.

Nicknamed "America's Oldest Teenager," Clark, a native of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania not Mississippi!) was best known as the host of American Bandstand, which ran from 1956 until 1989 on both ABC and syndication, as well as Rockin' New Years Eve from Times Square, an annual New Year's Eve tradition on ABC for years. His last appearance was back on December 31.

But some, even most of us know him as a game show host of both the $25,000 Pyramid (CBS daytime 1982-88) and the $100,000 Pyramid (1985-88, through syndication via Fox). He also did The Challengers, a show where he both hosted and was co-executive producer. The Challengers ran in syndication in the 1990-91 season. His other game show hosting duties included the short-lived NBC show Scattergories (based on the Milton Bradley/Hasbro game of course) and Winning Lines, which was a primetime series that ran on CBS during the 1999-2000 season, marking his return to CBS since daytime Pyramid was cancelled in 1988.

We also know Clark was a businessman and ran dick clark productions inc., a production company that oversaw Bandstand as well as The Challengers, and several awards and tele-movies over the years, such as 1979's Elvis, which starred Kurt Russell as Elvis Presley.

So here is a perfect example of Clark and his fine hosting duties. From daytime Pyramid in 1984.
