Sochi 2014: The Countdown Series: Estonia

90 days remaining until the opening ceremonies at Sochi 2014. Up next on the countdown: Estonia.

Estonia made their winter Olympics debut at St. Moritz 1928, then skipped Lake Placid 1932 by returning for Garnisch Partenkirchen 1936. They would return to the winter games at Albertville 1992 and competed in every winter Olympic game since. Estonian athletes in these winter games have won seven medals, including four gold medals.

Only two Estonians have won gold in the winter Olympics. One is Kristina Smigun Vahi (pictured), who won gold twice; in both the women's 10k and 15k cross country skiathlon at Turin 2006. The other was Andrus Veerpalu, who won the men's cross country 15k events at Salt Lake City 2002 and again at Turin 2006.

As of now, 13 Estonians are headed to Sochi, mostly in men's and women's biathlon.

Up next: Ethiopia
