London 2012: The Countdown Series: Egypt

159 days to go until the first day of action in London. Up next in the parade of nations: Egypt (EGY).

The nation has been participating in the summer Olympics since 1912, and since then, 22 medals were won by their athletes, seven of those medals being gold.

The seven gold medals for Egypt in the summer Olympics have been won individually. Seven athletes have won one each, mostly in weightlifting. The most recent is wrestler Karan Gaber Ibrahim. He won the gold at Athens 2004 in the heavyweight division of Greco-Roman wrestling.

As of now, 66 Egyptian athletes will compete in 11 events-including athletics, modern pentathlon, swimming, and a men's soccer (football) team.

Up next: El Salvador
