165 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Up next on the parade of nations: Denmark (DEN).
The country has been participating in the summer Olympics since the first modern day Olympics of 1896. A total of 184 medals have been won, with 44 of those gold.
Individually, Paul Elvstrom has the most gold medals of any athlete among all Danish athletes in the Olympics with four. All in sailing, in the one-person mixed Dinghy, at London 1948, Helsinki 1952, Melbourne 1956 and at Rome 1960.
Ten athletes have won more than one gold medal individually in the summer Olympics for Denmark. Rower Eskild Ebbesen has three medals, in the men's lightweight coxless fours, at Atlanta 1996, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Eight Danes have won two medals each.
Men's football (soccer) won gold at Athens 2006, while women's handball won three gold medals in a row-at Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.
As of now, 70 Danish athletes will compete in 12 events, including athletics, cycling, handball and swimming, and possibly the water sports.
