London 2012: The Countdown Series: Czech Republic

166 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Next up on the parade of nations: Czech Republic (CZE).

The country has participated in the summer Olympics since 1996, the first summer Olympics after the breakup of Czechoslovakia (competed in their first winter Olympics at Lillehammer 1994). 33 medals were won by Czech athletes including 10 gold medals.

Jan Zelezny (pictured) has won the most gold medals among Czech athletes in the summer Olympics at three. He won all of them in the javelin-at Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. He is one of three multiple gold medalists from that country.

Canoeists Martin Doktor and Stepanka Hilgertov both won two medals each. Doktor won 2 golds at Atlanta 1996, in the men's Canadian 500m and 1000m, while Hilgertov won 2 at Atlanta 1996 and again at Sydney 2000 in the women's slalom kayak singles.

As of now, 72 Czech athletes will represent 9 events-including athletics, cycling, swimming and canoeing.

Next up: Denmark
