London 2012: The Countdown Series: Sri Lanka

77 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Next up on the parade of nations: Sri Lanka (SRI).


Sri Lanka has participated in the summer Olympics since 1948. Only 2 medals have been won by Sri Lankan athletes in the summer games.


Despite no gold medals, Sri Lanka manage to get only two silver medals in the summer games. The first medal for Sri Lanka was that of Duncan White (pictured), who finished runner-up in the men's 400m (athletics) final at London 1948.

The second and most recent medal for Sri Lanka came by way of Susanthika Jayasinghe, who finished runner-up in the women's 200m (athletics) final at Sydney 2000.

As of now, five Sri Lankans are headed to London to compete in three events including various athletics events.
