Sochi 2014: The Countdown Series: Luxembourg

60 days remaining until the opening ceremonies (59 until the first day of competition) at Sochi 2014. Up next on the countdown: Luxembourg.

Luxembourg made their winter Olympics debut at St. Moritz 1928, and has sent athletes to the winter games ever since, with the exception of Lake Placid 1932, and between St. Moritz 1948 and Sarajevo 1984. It was Calgary 1988 where they returned to the winter Olympic spotlight, and has made consecutive winter games appearances since then, with the exception of Salt Lake City 2002. Only two medals were won by the Luxembourgish contingent in the winter games, both silver.

Skier Marc Girardelli (pictured) won the only medals in the winter games for Luxembourg. He won both silver medals--in the giant slalom and super G--at Albertville 1992.

As of now, no representation from Luxembourg for Sochi, but could change.

Up next: Macedonia
