Centenary D-I basketball Swan Song this weekend!

It is a sad weekend on the Centenary campus when the Gents and Ladies, both winless (combined 0-50 record), say goodbye to regular season play in Division I.

Come to think about it, both programs had their ups and downs whilst in D-I. While the Gents basketball program (and other athletic programs at Centenary) flirting with conference changes, the Ladies program were in existence for a few seasons in the '80s, then went on hiatus, then revived in late '90s.

Neither program have much hardware, neither have made an appearance in the NCAA tournaments at D-I level.

Both Gents and Ladies have two more chances to get a win before the transition begins. Gents play Thursday and Saturday (4:30pm, after the Ladies game), and the Ladies close out things on Saturday (2pm) and Monday night, at the Gold Dome.

Although the Gents currently have NO seniors to honor on this last weekend of D-I play, three Ladies' seniors will be honored after the game on Saturday. NOT on the Monday night finale.

Forward Ashley Jackson of Shreveport. Remember the posting on her record setting 1,000 point a month ago, the fourth Centenary player on the women's side to go over 1,000? She is the daughter of the Gents' all-time leading scorer Willie Jackson, who has about 200 points more than the Chief. It's real. It's damn real.

Center Anne Farrell of Tulsa. 2nd in school history (women's side) in rebounds, and will finish there. Over 700.
Forward Sarah Weiler of Colorado (born in China?). Usually on the bench, interchange player.

After the Monday night, it's curtains on D-I. Please support them, especially the three outgoing seniors for the Ladies. Ring or e-mail the athletic department for information, or just show up with some money ($5 to get in?). Centenary students, like me, it's free with ID! I'll be there (hopefully)!

UPDATE! Wear black to the games! The first fifty will recieve a Centenary basketball t-shirt! Flyers will be distributed to the fans for free pizza and salad at PieWorks on Kings, in front of Gold Dome. You must have a flyer to redeem a meal between 3:30 and 4:30pm.

Can food donations and cash donations will be welcomed as part of the annual Summit Food Fight, where they'll be donated to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.
