London 2012: The Countdown Series: United States Virgin Islands

52 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Up next on the parade of nations: United States Virgin Islands (ISV).


The United States Virgin Islands has participated in the summer Olympics since 1968. Only one medal has been won by their athletes in the summer games.


Sailer Peter Holmberg (pictured) finished runner up in the mixed one person Dinghy (sailing) at Seoul 1988, earning a silver. To this day, the only medal won for this island group in the Olympics.

As of now, the U.S. Virgin Islands will send seven to London and will compete in athletics and sailing events.
