Sochi 2014: The Countdown Series: Turkey

25 days remaining until the opening ceremonies (24 until the first day of competition) at Sochi 2014. Up next on the countdown: Turkey.


Turkey made their winter Olympics debut at Garmisch Partenkirchen 1936. They skipped Oslo 1952, then returned at Cortina d'Ampezzo 1956. The Turkish also skipped Sapporo 1972, and then returned at Innsbruck 1976. They also skipped Lake Placid 1980, but did return at Sarajevo 1984, where they have been present at every winter games since. The Turkish contingent in the winter games competed in mostly Alpine and cross country events, though no medals won.

For Sochi, six quota spots available for Turkey, including in cross country and Alpine among others.
