SIBERIA Episode 5 Review: It's a Trap!

If you haven't seen the episode, ignore this review. If you have, scroll down in...

Two...

One...

As if the previous episode of SIBERIA got you in a tizzy, this one tops it! This had to the be the most emotional episode so far because of its intensity.

It is left off from the previous episode where backstage politics were into play. It even segues to a part in the cabin where Carolina (or Joyce) said "why did I sign up for this?" This led to something in mind: did she voluntarily told the casting people about this at first? We all know it's scripted, just like almost every other reality television show, even that show about those stupid ass Kardashians.

It even gets more creepier. Miljan discovered a pendant and opened it to find out it had a picture of a girl's face. He didn't realize someone would choke him from behind and it was Sabina! That was an impressive chokehold by Sabina, enough to guarantee a mixed martial arts contract with INVICTA Fighting Championships, the all women MMA promotion. I was hoping Miljan would flip her, then put her in an inverted triangle. Sabina would later get exposed for being the hog she was when a cameraman entered a cave she was hiding in. Cans of food and the guns were there as well. Busted!

Later, there was another huge blow to the compound. Anne Marie found Natalie's journal (I think) from underneath her bed in the cabin, and tore out her drawing of Anne Marie and tossed it into the campfire. Natalie secretly informed the others that she has quit the game, so therefore she is the sixth to depart from this chase for $500k.

The ugliest moment of the episode was when Irene and Miljan were going hunting. Irene, being the sharpest archer she was, perfectly shot down her game, a whitetail deer. But it was discovered that the deer was just a deer head. As a result, this deer head Irene shot became her trap. And this trap came down on her hard. Part of the trap probably got her in the leg. This pain, coupled by the loss of blood in her right leg, is life threatening, it hit home for everyone else on the compound. Esther informed the others that a copter was there to airlift Irene to a hospital, miles and miles away. During this process, Miljan began to cut himself in an arm with a razor, to ease the pain and horror from his endeavors with Irene. Not a good day for Miljan, who earlier got backstabbed by Sam.

As a copter was waiting for Irene, the button, which was supposed to inform the others that he/she has withdrawn, disconnected. Too bad no one stepped on it and got electrocuted. Also, Esther's emotions and her leaving, which was not the case. As you watch that scene again, you can see Esther's right foot crossing the line, meaning that she has withdrawn from the game. I felt like I could have thrown a challenge flag, hence a review of that movement. And as you watch it a hundred times, this has to be the perfect conclusion:

"After review of the play, Esther's right foot crossed the line, and her left toe hit the line. She however didn't hit the button. Therefore, she would have withdrawn."

Where was Joe Machnik or Mike Pereira for this explanation? Oh wait, this was on NBC.

As for the copter, it never showed up! Johnny and Sam began to take their frustrations out on Esther by way of cameraman. Before that, the best move of the night was Johnny telling the cameraman 'fuck you!' by simply telling him you're 'number one'! Then all hell broke loose. Johnny, Dan, cameraman and Sam all were fighting. Johnny and Sam were tussling toward the end! Mortal Kombat invades Siberia!

Some more strange stuff at the end of the episode. Sabina discovers a girl, a girl with blond hair. I was thinking: 1. is Sabina hallucinating? and 2. Berglind, who along with Harpreet, was eliminated in the first episode as they were both being the slowest in the flag race, is back? Who knows. Also there's another camp in the compound. This one had tents. Who knows what or who lives here and it could be interesting in these next couple episodes!

Once again, this was the most intense episode of Matt Arnold's SIBERIA so far. Spend your next few Monday nights on NBC instead of watching Monday Night RAW.

As for the scorecard...

15. Harpreet (slowest in flag race)
