Friday Jukebox 8.30.13: A Short Tribute to Jetty Paerl

Jetty Paerl died this week at the age of 92. She will be most famous for being the very first performer of the EUROVISION Song Contest (Concours EUROVISION Chansons de la Europeenes), at Lugano 1956. That year, there were fourteen entries, two from the seven countries that participated. Lys Assia had two songs for Switzerland that day, and won with one of them. Lys is still alive.

The song that Jetty started the phenomenon that is the EUROVISION Song Contest with was a good piece, called "De Vogels van Holland."

Have a very safe Labo(u)r Day weekend. Drive safe, stay safe.
