Centenary Homecoming week 2011: The Lowdown.
All you need to know is right here. The theme of this year's homecoming is "Back to the Future."
Begins Wednesday with a kickball game at 7pm, weather pending. There is supposed to be a winter storm coming through the area some point Tuesday.
Gents play Thursday night at 7pm, pre-game gathering at PieWorks Kings Highway starts at 5:30pm (I'll still be in class at the time).
On Saturday, both Gents and Ladies play, starting at 2pm, but the day kicks off with the Homecoming parade and street festival starting at 12:15pm.

Weekend Oddities 1.30.11
The first installment featuring stuff that I didn't cover during the week! Such as...
CHP officer Jon Baker sentenced to three years probation for financial fraud.
On Friday 1.28.11, was the 25th anniversary of the disasterous explosion of space shuttle Challenger.
Also, the NCAA official site has an article on Ladies' senior forward Ashley Jackson, about going over the 1,000 point mark in her career (remember the post a couple weeks ago, and I was at the game), and the family connections at Centenary.
And finally...
A note to Oracene Price, mother of Venus and (the injured) Serena Williams: please, shut the f*** up.

RF and his 20 towels!
I finally came up on the Roger Federer post match interview from days ago with Jim Courier, former grand slam champion, working his 7th straight year at the AO for 7 Network.
For the record, on Thursday, Federer got ousted in three sets by Nole Djokovic in the Semis. Nole will play the winner of Murray-Ferrer on Sunday afternoon.

RANT: Is Taco Bell's Beef REALLY Beef?
Really?
And now this is a comeback from the Yum! division's president posted on their web site.
Now my side of the story. I don't mind Taco Bell, but I do understand that most of today's fast food is in the shitter. I will eat fast food at chains such as Raising Cane's, Sonic, Popeye's, and others every once in a while whenever there's something new and refreshing on the menu. For the past few years I turned to Moe's for my quick Mexican food fix, even though it's not fast food, but fast casual (other chains are like that-Smashburger and Wing-Stop among others). People should realize, regardless of fast food or home cooking, who knows what they add inside the food, we will still eat it anyway.
With that in mind, Arby's ran a series of ads a few years back for their chicken, claiming that it's "all natural," to Wendy's (their soon-to-be former sister chain) and McDonald's. It's fast food, you never know what they add into their chicken.
Some chains also debuked one another about food being fresh and not frozen, even Jack in the Box got sued by Carl Karcher Enterprises (CKE), the parent of Carl's Jr. and Hardees a few years back because of the claim that CKE's "angus" burgers were not angus but from the "anus."
But the thing is, no matter what's in the food, people will still eat it, and if they get sick and claim that they'll never go back, you never know that they WILL come back. Not surprising.

Gents basketball 2010-11: D-I Non-conference farewell tonight!
Tonight is the last night to listen to the final non-conference game for Gents basketball as they're on the road at ULL. You can listen for free right here!
The remaining schedule, all Summit play, includes the Homecoming game at the Gold Dome on the 5th. Still probably some time before the Gents get a win.
The Gents' final game as a D-I program before the move to D-III will be on February 26, when they host IUPUI in the Gold Dome.

Re: Milestones
These were photos I took at the Ladies' game, in which they lost to Southern Utah. What was the positive out of it was senior Ashley Jackson becoming the fifth player in Ladies' basketball history to go over 1,000 points in her career.
The woman with the camera (I do believe) is Leslie Spoon of KTBS shooting a vignette on this game for her Saturday 10pm sportscast, which features Jackson's interview after the ceremony (not on ktbs.com), and it took place during a long delay in the Gents' tip off. The reason of the delay is because of the tardiness of the three Summit officials working the game, thus the game tip off moved to 6pm.
And since I was there for both the Gents and Ladies games, there are photos of me, that are on the Shreveport Times website under "Centenary v. Southern Utah" photos. I was wearing an aqua blue shirt, and jeans. Search thoroughly.

The first Grand Slam of the season is here!
It's the time all tennis fans have longed for. The Australian Open! First Grand Slam of 2011, and the best time to catch a grand slam until Roland Garros in May.
For the schedule matches of this day 1, they're right here.
In this first day of action, Shreveport's Ryan Harrison is in action, so is Nole Djokovic, Andy Roddick, Venus, top seeded Caroline Wozniacki, and JUSTINE HENIN! Yes folks. There's also live timing and scoring too!

Friday Jukebox! 1.14.11
This week it's some more early '80s goodness. And this week, it's Afrika Bambaataa and his Soul Sonic Force!
When it came to "Renegades of Funk," I admit that I first listened to Rage Against the Machine's cover (From off of Renegades, released 2000, and was RATM's last album) before this version, but like all other works of music (not all), the original will always be better. Rage did a great job with the cover (and I believe Renegades is full of rap covers).

Milestones
If you plan on being there on Saturday to see the Ladies and Gents doubleheader at the Gold Dome on Saturday, make sure you start going there for the tip-off at 2pm for the Ladies. Although the Ladies have yet to win a game in their last D-I season, there's a story regarding Saturday's Ladies' contest against Southern Utah. Senior Ashley Jackson is going for her 1,000 point in her career at Centenary. She needs 16 to get to the mark. Here's the wonderful information about that feat. If you're headed out, I'll most likely be out there too!

Check This Out: BMW BBQ!
This is a video I found on Youtube, and a follow up to my recent post "Snow!!!" The winter storm that invaded the south. This is in the Atlanta area over the weekend. You won't believe this BMW caught on fire! I do believe this gives BMW's slogan "The Ultimate Driving Machine" another meaning. Also the driver escaped unhurt.

Snow!!!
This is a photo of my backyard taken from my bedroom. There is snow left over from Sunday afternoon! As you know by know, four states declaring a state of emergency as a result of the winter storms, and plenty of places throughout the southern US have shut down. If you're out there driving, be sure to take precautions when driving in icy weather!

Playoffs!
The road to Arlington begins this weekend! Four games on NFL wild card weekend, including the defending Super Bowl champions playing the champion of the Toilet Duck Division! Also noted that Ivory and (Pierre) Thomas are out for playoffs with injuries, so will Bush and JJ do their jobs as the Sainters' healthiest tailbacks? We'll see.
Also this weekend, the Ch(i)efs return to the postseason for the first time in eons. Great googly moogly!

Friday Jukebox! 1.7.11
Since this is a new blog, I feel that I must devote a day a week to something, and that is music. Therefore, every Friday (hopefully), I bring you "Friday Jukebox"! I'll talk about music, primarily from the past, and today's first ever Friday Jukebox focus on the late Rick James collaboration with Teena Marie called "Fire & Desire."
Here is the entire song for your pleasure.
As you all aware, "Fire & Desire" is off of the late Rick James' extremely awesome Street Songs album released in 1981, that features the epics "Give It To Me" and of course-"Super Freak" (Temptations sing!).
I was lucky to find the LP somewhere in my house. I remember when there was a stereo with record player in late '80s-early '90s, my parents played this album. The reason of this first post of Jukebox Friday, because as you're aware of, Teena Marie died a couple weeks ago at age 54.Here is the entire song for your pleasure.

On This Day 6 January
25 years ago today (1/6/86)-three game shows premiered during a "crossroads" season of sorts of the game show genre at the time (1985-86). One was a revival, another introduced a UK host to US television and another offered the first million dollar prize!
The first one that I want to mention is the US debut (?) of UK game show host Bruce Forsyth. Here's a guy that hosted the UK versions of Card Sharks and The Price is Right among others. His US series called Hot Streak premiered on ABC on this day, and ran until April.
Another game show that premiered on this day was the first and the only one at the time with the "richest prize in television" of one million dollars (and I do remember vaguely). I am talking about The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime, which catapulted Jim Lange to return as a game show host since Name that Tune was cancelled after the 1984-85 season. The show, with the letter and puzzle guessing elements, had the feel of Wheel of Fortune. The format and elements of the show changed during season 2, with $1 million not just in cash, but also prizes were added, including Mazda cars and trucks (a couple season two episodes are on YouTube), and the addition of Karen Thomas as Lange's sidekick for that second season. The show, which spawned nine millionaires throughout its run, ran in syndication until September 1987.
Finally, on this day in 1986, after 4 1/2 years on hiatus, Goodson-Todman's Card Sharks returned, but this time on a new network, with Bob Eubanks at the helm as host (he also was busy with The New Newlywed Game at the time), and two new dealers, new to the franchise. Like the Jim Perry NBC daytime version (1978-81), the Money Cards was the endgame, until a month into season 2. That is when the car game for this and the syndicated version (hosted by Bill Rafferty of Blockbusters and Every Second Counts fame) were added. A week dedicated to teens called "Young People's Week" featured a trip to Hawaii (in season 2 and the lone season of the Rafferty version). In the final season of Eubanks' run, a "range game" was the car endgame, involving the audience poll members. That aformentioned CBS daytime version was cancelled in March 1989, and ironic that production moved over the following week to the revival of another G-T show, Now You See It, which lasted about a few months at that timeslot CS occupied during its run on CBS daytime.

2011 American LeMans TV schedule is out!
For the fans of the top sports car series in North America, here is the official 2011 ALMS TV schedule. Gone are CBS and Speed; enter the ESPN family of networks will take over coverage of ALMS beginning at Sebring. But why all TV on tape delay, and live online on ESPN3?
Also, will Speed carry the 24 Heures du Mans this year? Hopefully they'll do all 24 hours of it (I think Speedvision did it in 2001, and I didn't have cable for the majority of that year).
I'll stick to the best radio coverage anywhere...Radio Le Mans! Nothing beats Hindy's commentary!
