Congrats to the Sydney (South Melbourne) Swans...

2012 AFL PREMIERS!

What a match! Swans were down by 19 at quarter time, but fought within the final 90+ minutes. When Nick Malceski kicked a brilliant goal from within 50m, the icing is on the cake. First premiership for the Swans since their epic win over the Eagles in 2005. Sydney's second premiership since relocation from South Melbourne after the 1980 season.

Mike Pyke, #38 for the Swans, was a member of the Canadian national rugby team that played in international Rugby Union competition. In a match against All Blacks, he scored a try. The only AFL player to ever say that he scored a try against the powerful All-Blacks side. Something Israel Folau or Karmichael Hunt never did in their rugby careers.

Pyke is the first North American-born player to win AFL premiership since US-born (to Australian parents) Don Pyke (no relation) did with the Eagles in 1992 and 1994 (under Mick Malthouse of course).

Ryan O'Keefe got the Norm Smith for best on ground, despite being second best on ground in the match (Shane Sewell for Hawthorn had 33 disposals).
