Joe L. Allbritton, 87, Media Mogul
Link.
Ever read POLITICO? Ever watch a newscast on WJLA, KTUL, KATV or any of his stations? This is the man who founded his company, which became one of the biggest media companies outside of the big media giants (Disney, NBC-U/Comcast, CBS, News Corp./Fox, Warner, Sony, Viacom).
His company, currently CEO'd by his son, operates over 40 television stations, ranking up with station groups such as Hearst, Sinclair, Belo, Nexstar, Washington Post, and Raycom among others as one the largest television station groups in the United States.
In the late 1970s, he bought out WMAL channel 7 in Washington, DC and changed the call letters to reflect on his initials, hints on the new station owner.
