A Big Sporting Weekend This Past Weekend...

People in the states got a treat this past weekend when the grand finals of both the Australian Football League (Australian Rules Football) and National Rugby League of Australasia were televised on ESPN2 and Fox Soccer Channel respectively.

Both had horrible pre-game festivities. Meat Loaf at the AFL Grand Final, Kelly Clarkson at the NRL Grand Final. Both suck, but prefer Meat Loaf over Kelly Clarkson even though Meat Loaf Aday isn't as "manufactured" as Clarkson is. At least Eskimo Joe was at the NRL Grand Final. That band is heaps better than both Meat Loaf and Kelly Clarkson combined.

As far as the matches-congrats to both the Manly Sea Eagles and Geelong Cats. For the Sea Eagles, their 24-10 win over New Zealand launched the club's 8th Rugby League flag, while the Cats got their third premiership in five years, the first under first year coach Chris Scott-in a 38 point win over Collingwood (Cats 18.11, Pies 12.9). Scott's win marked the 13th first year coach to win a VFL/AFL premiership. 2007 Brownlow medalist Jimmy Bartel, who had 26 possessions in the game, earned the Norm Smith medal for being best on ground in this year's Grand Final.

Outside of the football, the penultimate Petit Le Mans took place. Audis had problems, but a Peugeot won. Both Audi and Peugeot LMP1 prototypes both run on diesel especially the Audi and their TDI power, which Volkswagen has in virtually every vehicle they make (including Audi).

Also baseball playoffs are going on as well as NFL, CFL and the Rugby World Cup. Enjoyed seeing the All-Blacks whoop Canada's ass on Sunday. That game was on NBC, competing against late NFL on CBS and/or Fox and/or the London Derby where Spurs defeated Arsenal 2-1. Great sporting weekend perhaps.
