Two Separate Incidents Marred the EBT Awards Weekend
Link.
Not surprising, were there any violence at other shows this year? Oh wait, it happens at these awards; it happened at other related awards like the 'defunct' Source Awards a lot of times.
Cut back on award shows and this shit wouldn't happen.

Sounds interesting. At least it isn't Michael Bay!
Footnote: the article says it will be cinematically released by Warner, though no word Paramount will have some involvement as they (Paramount) was the original cinematic distributor. Warner got the property simply because of the involvement of the LORIMAR studios of this film.

The Suarez Verdict and a Little Short Take.
Yes guys, Luis Suarez got a punishment that is very shocking to all of us: a four month ban after his bite earlier this week on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini (as pictured here). Four months, really?
I still think he should've gotten more. That won't do it. He might do it again. Somebody talk to him before it happens again! Also, the Uruguayan team is threatening a boycott of their match this weekend against Colombia in the round of 16. I wonder if they can coexist without Suarez, we'll see.

CFL 2014 Begins Tonight; Redblacks Begin Inaugural Season Next Thursday
The CFL season is back this weekend!
Much needed news for all gridiron fans after the league faced a lot of labor issues. Thank goodness they don't need a lockout.
Last year was the inaugural year for the Bombers at Investors Group Field (pictured), and despite missing the playoffs, they needed a new place that is state of the art in this day and age. The Bombers will host the Alouettes tonight. Investors Group Field will be among the venues for next year's FIFA World Cup for Women as Canada will be the host nation.
The defending Grey Cup champions begin their 2014 season on Sunday as the Roughriders travel to Commonwealth to take on the Eskimos.
One more thing, the new Ottawa Redblacks will kick off their season in Winnipeg next Thursday. Good to see football back in Ottawa. Every game is on TSN exclusively in Canada with some games on TV here in the states.

The Suarez Bite from Tuesday: How it Should Be Handled (In My Opinion).
In case you haven't heard, Luis Suarez is up for a FIFA hearing after his bite on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, leaving bite marks on Chiellini's left shoulder (as pictured here). This followed a takedown via armbar. The ban that Suarez is facing could be up to two years or 24 matches. Suarez has done this before, twice at the club level. Now it's about time to hand him down some stipulations.
My take on this and how it should work (in my opinion):
- Suarez should at least get a two year ban.
- Suarez must complete counseling.
- Suarez must undergo an HIV test.
- Chiellini must undergo an HIV test.
- Suarez must undergo various WADA testing.
- If Suarez tests positive for HIV, would want a lifetime ban.
- If Chiellini has HIV or rabies, Italian football federation has a right to file criminal charges to local law enforcement, resulting in Suarez's arrest and jail time.
- Failure should result in some stiff penalties including ban of the Uruguayan football federation from all FIFA events (men and women) for at least a year. And if all else fails, FIFA shall pull their license.
And if Suarez plays his next match during this year's World Cup for Men (Colombia is Uruguay's next opponent this weekend in the round of 16), urging the Colombian federation that if it happens, a boycott and walkover must ensue.
All of this to fix the problems of football. For the good of the game.

The Championships, Wimbledon 2014 Begins Monday!
All England is back for business for the Championships starting Monday! The only grand slam played on grass. Although defending women's singles champion Marion Bartoli won't defend the title (she retired shortly after her win after a critic made comments regarding looks), Andy Murray will defend his men's singles title there. Murray became the first Brit since Virginia Wade in 1977 to win at All England in singles competition (in general). It was also Murray's second grand slam. Will he repeat?

Casey Kasem Tribute Part 2: AT40 Was His Baby
Continuing my weeklong (I hope) tribute to the late Casey Kasem. He was the host of the syndicated music radio series American Top 40, from 1970 until 1988 (Shadoe Stevens of Hollywood Squares fame was his successor). Here's an example of his finest work from that show, make that a complete episode of AT40 from February of 1986.
He also had guest hosts such as Charlie van Dyke and Bob Eubanks among others. Until next week, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

24 Heures du Mans 2014 Saturday!
LMP1 just got interesting this year as Porsche now has LMP1 entries at the 24 Heures du Mans the 81st(?) running of the world's greatest race.
It is also the one year anniversary of the tragedy of the first hour when Danish driver Allan Simonsen lost control of the car and hit the Armco barrier. Simonsen died of injuries at the hospital. Simonsen was the lead pilot of the GTE Pro #95 Aston Martin. His partner told the team to continue and win for him, but the rest of the entries had problems throughout the race. Simonsen's tragedy was among a list of fatalities on the Circuit de la Sarthe course, which includes a normal highway. The Aston team is back again this year.
The race will start at 9am NAEDT. In the states it's on Fox Sports 1 & 2. Also follow the action on radio at RadioLeMans.com and the LeMans official web site (l'ACO) for timing and scoring.
Let's go racing!

Despite All Roadblocks: FIFA World Cup 2014 (Men) is a Go!?
Are you ready for some football?
Despite all the issues such as stadium preparation, traffic, labor disputes and continuous violence throughout the country, Brazil is a go for this year's FIFA Men's World Cup 2014.
32 teams have qualified late last year through confederational matches as well as the intercontinental playoffs. Brazil, the host country will begin play on Thursday as they take on Croatia.
Spain and Netherlands will play on Friday, a rematch of the FIFA World Cup final from 2010.
With several key players out for their respective teams, here are my odds for the 32 teams competing in Brazil:
Germany 5-2
Argentina 4-1
Uruguay 7-1
Brazil 8-1
Ghana 10-1
Netherlands 12-1
United States 12-1 (was 5-1 until Klinsmann's decision to not Landon Donovan play)
Spain 15-1
Italy 15-1
Nigeria 15-1
Belgium 20-1
France 20-1
Cameroon 25-1
Costa Rica 25-1
England 25-1
Switzerland 25-1
Ivory Coast 27-1
Japan 30-1
Russia 30-1 (we know the fix is in)
Honduras 32-1
Mexico 45-1
Australia 50-1
Croatia 50-1
Colombia 60-1
Greece 70-1
Chile 75-1
Ecuador 85-1
Portugal 90-1
Bosnia & Herzegovina 100-1
Republic of Korea 105-1
Iran 105-1
Algeria 150-1
Always note: when the World Cup is in the Americas a South American team wins (see the '94 World Cup for details). Could Brazil or Argentina do it? Who knows.
Remember, it starts Thursday and every match is live on Univision, UniMAS and ABC free-to-air and ESPN, here in the states.
114th US Open Pinehurst: The National Championship of Golf Starts Thursday!
Well guys, the real major of golf is here. The real national championship of golf in the United States.
Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina is the place for the 114th US Open Golf Championships for Men by the USGA. It will be real hot.
Last year so much shit took for granted regarding those wicker baskets at Merion. Even Lee Westwood complained on twitter. Come on man, wicker baskets are a tradition there. Now we're back to flags (I think). Justin Rose--the defending champion--will be there as will some very interesting qualifiers from the USGA sectionals, a great mix of the most diverse of all the golf majors period.

146th Belmont Stakes Saturday: Can California Chrome Break the 36-Year Itch?
The final leg of the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing is on Saturday. California Chrome blasted through the field to take the races at Churchill and Pimlico. Now it's off to hot Belmont Park for the final leg on Saturday.
California Chrome has got the clearance by the NYRA to wear a nasal strip, similar to the one worn for Churchill and Pimlico. Will that strip work in very hot conditions Saturday? Tune in to NBC after 6pm NAEDT.

Boxing in MSG Main Arena Returns Saturday: Sergio Martinez v. Miguel Cotto for the WBC Middleweight Title
For the first time in over a year, the main arena at Madison Square Garden--the world's 'most famous arena'--will host a boxing match.
Back to December 2012, where Cotto last fought in MSG, and lost in decision to Austin 'No Doubt' Trout on a fight which was broadcast live for SHOWTIME Sports here in the states. Here, he faces stiff challenge from a tough Mexican by the name of Sergio Martinez, who I thought didn't look tough against Martin Murray (didn't see the fight in its fullest because I was watching that 'other' card on SHOWTIME that night). Besides this fight, the rest of the card looks weak (my honest opinion). Just save your PPV money for GLORY 17 Los Angeles in two weeks.
This will also mark Cotto's second consecutive fight with HBO Sports. He fought on HBO a few months ago and defeated Delvin Rodriguez in Orlando. This fight won't be on HBO, but on pay per view which HBO will produce and distribute.

Stanley Cup Final 2014 Begins Wednesday: Broadway Versus Hollywood
We'll guys, we have a New York-Los Angeles pro championship series for the first time since 2002.
When you think New York-Los Angeles championship series, what do you think of? Of course the Knicks-Lakers series of 1970 (featuring Willis Reed's return in game 7) and 1973, Dodgers-Yankees 1981 World Series (the last of the major championship series between the two series), and the 2002 WNBA Finals between the Sparks and Liberty (yes folks, it is still basketball).
Now we have a Kings-Rangers series. The Kings finished third in the Pacific this year, got through the Sharks in the first round, the Ducks in the semifinals, and the Blackhawks in the conference final. For the third straight year (second time in three years), Darryl Sutter and his staff know that it's "fuck the regular season, it's the playoffs that matter." And they live up to that mantra. Did you know after the West final series game 7 that they have been unbeaten in game sevens? That's the fact Jack.
The Rangers on the other hand became the first NYC area team since the Devils in 2011-12 to reach the final. It is also their first since 1994 (and the rest was history). They also have that fresh 1994 car smell. It was in the East final where they sent the Habs home in game 6. The Habs were the only Canadian franchise in this year's playoffs.
With that in mind, the series schedule.
STANLEY CUP FINAL
(3P) Kings v (2M) Rangers
(Best of seven)
Game 1: Tomorrow
Game 2: Saturday
Game 3: Monday
Game 4: 6.11

*-If necessary, of course.
The real finals series. Forget about that other finals series that starts Thursday (see preview tomorrow). In Canada, it's all on CBC, while here in the states, games 1, 2 and 5-7 (if necessary) will be on NBC, while 3 and 4 are on NBCSN.
