EUROVISION LVIII 2013 Update: Cascada, Stoyan and Elitsa Returns, and More

As more countries selected their representatives for Malmo 2013, there are a few that are already catching my eye.

Valentina Monetta isn't the only returning artist to this year's ESC, Anouk is coming back as are Stoyan Yankulov and Elitsa Stodorova (pictured above). Yankulov and Stodorova represented Bulgaria in 2007, and finished sixth overall. To this day, it is the only act from Bulgaria to make it in the final. BNT, the Bulgarian broadcaster for EUROVISION, handpicked them to represent Bulgaria at Malmo as opposed to another national contest as they did since the country entered ESC in 2005. The duo have three songs, but it's up to the fans to decide. BNT's ratings for EUROVISION have increased in 2012 from 2011.

At Baku 2012, it was Engelbert Humperdinck. At Malmo 2013, it will be Cascada. A brand name act that could sway away in fan votes and juries. Cascada, an alternative house act, had a #2 hit in the UK in 2003 with a cover of "Everytime we Touch." The trio will represent Germany in Malmo with "Glorious."

A handful of artists have confirmed songs for Malmo. Among those, Esma Redzepova and Vlatko Lozanowski Lozano with "Empire" and the Who See Klapa, who will change songs and team up with Nina Zizic on "Igranka."

Also heard that Alena Lanskaya's "Rhythm of Love" will have a change as well as the band Heilsarmee, who will change their name to reflect EBU standards.

Later this week, Estonia, Hungary and Romania will name their acts as well.

The ESC LVIII roster as of now:
Adrian Lulgjuraj, Bledar Sejko "Identiet" (ALB)
Gor Sujyan "TBA" (ARM)
Natalia Kelly "Shine" (AUT)
Roberto Bellarosa "Love Kills" (BEL)
Alena Lanskaya "Rhythm of Love" (BLR)
Stoyan Yankulov, Elitsa Stodorova "TBA" (BUL)
TBA "Mizerja" (CRO)
Despina Olympiou "TBA" (CYP)
Emmelie de Forest "Only Teardrops" (DEN)
Krista Siegfrieds "Marry Me!" (FIN)
Amadine Bourgeois "L'enfer Et Moi" (FRA)
Nodi Tatishvili, Sophie Gelovani "Waterfall" (GEO)
Cascada "Glorious" (GER)
Koza Mostra, Agathonas Iakovidis "Alcohol in Free" (GRE)
Eypor Ingi Gunnlaugsson "Eg a Lif" (ISL)
Ryan Dolan "Only Love Survives" (IRL)
Marco Mengioni "L'Essenziale" (ITA)
PeR "Here We Go!" (LAT)
Andrius Pojavis "Something" (LTU)
Esma Redzepova, Vlatko Lozanoski Lozano "Empire" (MKD)
Gianluca Bezzina "Tomorrow" (MLT)
Who See Klapa, Nina Zizic "Igranka" (MNE)
Anouk "Birds" (NED)
Margaret Berger "I Feed You My Love" (NOR)
Dina Garipova "What If?" (RUS)
Valentina Monetta "Crisalide" (SMR)
El Sueno de Morfeo "TBA" (ESP)
Hannah "Straight Into Love" (SLO)
Heilsarmee "You and Me" (SUI)
Zlata Ognevich "Gravity" (UKR)

Stay tuned to this blog for any updates leading up to Malmo 2013!

Friday Jukebox 2.15.13

Since the group Cascada will represent Germany at EUROVISION LVIII at Malmo in May, I thought I'd give a refresher course to let people know that they're still alive. Hence, their cover of Maggie Reilly's "Everytime we Touch" from 2003. A number 2 hit in the UK at the time.

Be on the lookout for their new single "Glorious," which they will perform at ESC 2013.

Oscar Pistorius? Murderer? Say it isn't so!

Link.

This will no doubt be a changing moment in his career besides making it to the semifinals of the men's 400m at London 2012.

I've been a fan of his for the last couple of years. No matter if it was London 2012, Daegu 2011 or even any IAAF Diamond League event, he was there just to show everyone that he could run with able-bodied runners.

It is sad that some people will look down to him just like to others like O.J. Simpson, Ray Lewis, and others that have been in the negative spotlight over the past decades. I'm going to say that he probably didn't do it, instead someone came in and burglarized the home. Not surprising, that in post-Apartheid South Africa, burglaries have increased nationwide.

This will have the same light as the O.J. Simpson trial in the months to come. As a result, feminist groups will protest his actions once he's free, and if he ever returns to the track, I'm assuming he'll end up dealing with death threats as well.

With that in mind, he will be a free man soon. Think of the Badr Hari saga where the boxer/kickboxer was framed of murder in the Netherlands and has been undergoing legal wranglings the past few months. He will be free as well.

FREE OSCAR!

**RANT** IOC to Cut Wrestling after Rio 2016?

Some sad news, but not official as of yet: IOC considering to drop wrestling from 2020.

Pending vote in September, the International Olympic Committee is thinking about dropping wrestling from the summer games beginning in 2020. This, along with dropping baseball and softball after Beijing 2008, is one of the most asinine decisions the IOC has ever done.

I'll give you some reasoning for this: Jock Strap Rogge and his cronies only want to drop sports that has lack of representation from western European countries (France, Spain, Germany, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Scandinavian states, etc.). Hence why baseball and softball was dropped after Beijing 2008. Wrestling is mostly dominiated by the following areas of the world: United States, Caribbean (preferably Cuba); former Soviet states (mostly Russia and Kazakhstan); Eastern Europe (mostly Bulgaria); southwest Asia and northern Africa. The sport's governing body-FILA-has more than 180 members, mostly second and third world countries. To some countries, sending a wrestler is their summer Olympics.

It is also a fact that when Baron de Coubertin brought back the Olympics in 1896, wrestling was on the menu. Wrestling is the original gymnastics, whereas artistic gymnastics is derived from wrestling, back in ancient times.

The United States alone has boasted numerous gold medalists in various weight classes of wrestling, from the likes of Dan Gable and Tom Brands to Kurt Angle, Rulon Gardner, Cael Sanderson, Henry Cejudo and most recently Jake Varner and Jordan Burroughs at London 2012. USA Wrestling is one of the most successful programs in Olympic wrestling with at least one gold medalist in just about every summer Olympics.

Wrestling in the Olympics brought us great athletes including the legendary Alex Karelin and Artur Taymazov, both three time gold medalists.

There is no way, the oldest, most purest sport in the world should disappear from the summer games menu in 2020. Neither should taekwondo, judo and boxing. The IOC needs combat sports to survive as an organization. It also needs such team sports as basketball, football (soccer), water polo, handball and (field) hockey as well. Not to mention the essential sports such as (artistic) gymnastics, swimming and athletics (track and field).

With that in mind, the sport that should go from the Olympic menu in 2020: rhythmic gymnastics. Useless sport. And synchronised swimming.

So keep the fight and let Jock Strap and his cronies know what us wrestling fans want. Several facebook pages are there to like, including "Keep Wrestling in the Olympics" and "Save Olympic Wrestling." Also '#SaveOlympicWrestling' on twitter as well.

Wrestling fans, fight the fight! We need you to keep the fight to save wrestling in the Olympics. The MMA community must join as well!

Also e-mail FILA and voice your opinion as well!

Review of Super Bowl XLVII Ads, Part 2: Honorable Mentions

Once again, part one of my Super Bowl XLVII ad review is up. That was the top five ads of this year's game. Now here are some ads that deserve honorable mention. Some might like it, some won't. That's life.

Here are my honorable mentions of the ads from this year's game:

The Coke Chase ads. The original one that aired in the first half:

When voting ended, it was the Showgirls who had the most votes. The Cowboys (I voted for them) and Badlanders were also voted on. However, it was this man who had the last laugh:

For those who claimed these ads are racist, take a Zoloft and shut up.

Speaking of imitating other cultures...

You are happy if you're Jamaican and you own a '13 VW:

These next three are from occasional Super Bowl advertiser, AB InBev, who was the only (I think) beer manufacturer with ads in this year's game.

It's only weird, if it doesn't work:

And the Clydesdale:

For the record, AB InBev wants you to name the Clydesdale seen in the ad. Make sure you send them a twitter @Budweiser, then use '#Clydesdales.

From Clydesdales to human life.

"Where do babies come from?"

Elderly and senior citizens party and eat Taco Bell at night...really?

Anyone can get a wish, right?

The battle of cream versus cookie, ECW style!

And with an Oreo, you might want "The People's Milk!"

Finally, you might want to wash it all down with Pepsi Next, which actually tastes just like Pepsi:

If you liked the Subway, GoDaddy and Calvin Klein ads, FUCK YOU! They sucked ass. So there you have it. The best and (some of) the best ads of Super Bowl XLVII from the CBS telecast.

Review of Super Bowl XLVII Ads, Part 1: Top Five Ads!

For the third consecutive year, I have the pleasure to review ads from the Super Bowl. With that in mind, this year, I have divided the reviews into two parts.

Remember, some were good, some were okay, and some absolutely sucked (see GoDaddy). So here we go.

Part one will be my top five ads from the game!

5. You have a team. We have ours.

4. The 'Nun Bun' Version 2.0.

3. "God Made a Farmer." And now you know, the rest of the story.

2. Fembots hate people touching a 2014 Forte.

And the number one ad from Super Bowl XLVII...

(scroll down)

1. Black eye for kissing the wrong girl!

In part two, will be my honorable mentions. You will not be surprised to see who is among the ads.

The Night the Lights Went Out in the Dome...

Third quarter, the power goes out, delayed for almost 30 minutes:

Entergy said it was a backup satellite truck that caused it...

The Hay is in the Barn! John triumphs over Jim at the Dome!

HARBowl XLVII in the books! Joe Flacco MVP over Jacoby Jones, I don't get it? Ray Lewis got his final wish, and so did a bunch of others.

Shitty halftime performance, as usual.

Good game though, which ended the NFC stronghold in the past three years.

Super Bowl XLVII, Sunday, Live on CBS!

It now comes down to this. Less than 24 hours away.

The Super Bowl is back in New Orleans for the first time since XXXVI. The Ravens and Niners are the teams trying to add another Lombardi trophy.

Ray Lewis' final NFL game ever, along with the Harbaugh brothers bowl (Harbowl) are among a shitload of storylines in Sunday's game.

It will be the seventh time the Super Bowl is played in the Superdome, and the third being televised by CBS. CBS was the broadcaster for XII, where the Cowboys defeated the Broncos, and XXIV, where the Niners had the biggest beatdown in Super Bowl history, downing the Broncos 55-10.

If you want alternatives to the shitty halftime show, look hard. If you want shitty alternatives to the game, look harder, because it's 99% movies and reruns. It is the one day where basically everything is shut down in America. Period.

SUPER BOWL XLVII
Mercedes Benz Superdome
Ravens (American) v 49ers (National)

For best results, listen to the team broadcasts, the 49ers KNBR feed with Ted Robinson of NBC/Tennis Channel fame, and the Ravens/WBAL feed with Qadry Ismail and Gerry "With a G" Sandusky. Dial Global will carry the game on radio nationally, yet again.
