IAAF World Championships 2015 Starts Saturday!

Everyone will know the 'Bird's Nest' by now. For Beijing 2008, it was the opening and closing ceremony venue, as well as the athletics venue.

Once again, the giant toilet bowl will revive for the 2015 edition of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. For the next ten days will see various athletics events decided with the possibility of world and championship records. Starting Saturday through Sunday the 30th, possible Olympic tickets might be punched in as well. First the IAAF's requirements must be met in order for Rio 2016 dreams to happen.

In the US, Universal Sports will have live coverage of the day session all ten days, with evening coverage on the Saturdays and Sundays of the worlds will be taped for airing in the afternoon on NBC. Also the IAAF app is very helpful.

Kazan 2015 is Here: Starts Friday!

Kazan 2015, the FINA World Championships starts Friday with diving exhibitions. The stuff will start to kick on Saturday with the start of open water swimming, as well as synchronised swimming.

The real stuff begins with the water polo on Sunday, with women starting that day, and the men on Monday. Swimming later that week.

This is a three week, seventeen day odyssey. Some of this will be qualifiers for Rio 2016. In the US, NBC and Universal Sports will have action throughout the weeks. It's that time.

IAAF World Championships in Athletics Moscow 2013 Starts Saturday!

You gotta love world championship season 2013. After some good stuff at BCN2013 with the Fina Worlds, now it's the IAAF and their turn, with their World Championships in Athletics, Moscow 2013, starting Saturday morning.

There will be a couple finals, including a marathon and the men's 10,000m final on the first day. About a year ago, the men's 10,000m final at London 2012 was won by Mo Farah, one of two golds he won at London, including the men's 5,000m final. Long distance races are the best!

Also on Saturday, the men's decathlon begins as well.

Here in the states, all nine days are televised, with NBC picking it up Saturday afternoon, as well as Sunday early afternoon (Eastern) and next weekend for the final two days. Universal Sports has weeklong coverage.

And if all else fails, Mos2013.ru, their official site, should have live timing.

BCN2013 Starts This Weekend!

The wait is over!

Barcelona 2013, or the XV FINA World Championships, start Friday. As usual, the FINA worlds is every two years, the year before-and the year after-the summer Olympics.

The first day is Friday, which is the opening ceremonies. On Saturday, two 5k open water races, as well as the diving and synchronized swimming begin competition.

Sunday marks the first day of the water polo. The women begins play that day. Among the matches on Sunday will be Italy/Kazakhstan, as well as the host country Spain taking on the Netherlands. The US women will begin play that day as the reigning Olympic gold medalists (with various changes on the roster) will take on Greece in group play. The men will begin play on Monday, as they take on Croatia. The groups for water polo play this year is as follows:

MEN
Group A: Spain, Montenegro, New Zealand, Greece
Group B: United States, Croatia, Canada, South Africa
Group C: Serbia, Hungary, Australia, China
Group D: Italy, Kazakhstan, Germany, Romania

WOMEN

The swimming begins next Sunday (7/28). On that day will be four finals-two 400m and the two 4x100m events, both in freestyle.

Here in the states, Universal Sports will have coverage of all the action for the two weeks. Sadly, it will be on tape. It should be streamed live on their site. NBC will have some action as well, but it will be for swimming only, beginning next Sunday (7/28), as well as Saturday (8/3) and Sunday (8/4). All on tape delay. Now it's the 13th edition of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics at Daegu, South Korea, which begins Saturday morning (Friday night here in the states), and who knows how many world records will fall this year?

In the US, Universal Sports and NBC will have coverage. Universal Sports will most likely have live coverage, whilst NBC has four days of coverage beginning Saturday at 12:30pm Central, on tape delay basis, similar to the swimming portion of the FINA World Championships at Shanghai last month.
