Not a fan of dubstep, but this is a long way from dubstep. "Thunder" by UK-based producer Rusko, from Songs, released in 2012. Great song, but is this really dubstep? Borderline.

I've been a fan of Groove Armada for over a decade. Their album Black Light came out in 2010, which includes the track "History." This is the Grum mix.

It's not January yet, so I felt like it's a good time to get a head start on something. Nevermind, it's a catchy tune, "January" by the British duo Disclosure (their remix of "You and Me" was in a Lacoste Ad recently). It has been over a year since their debut album (the artwork is below) was released.

To pay tribute to the so-called "King of Pop" on his death five years ago (this past Wednesday), I must play something that you all should like. First heard this on Music Choice Electronica, circa 2002, and it contains the voices of the pedophile freak himself. Scanty Sandwich "Jacko on Acid (got another name because of the PC patrol)" was released in 2000.

For the second straight week, I am continuing a mini-tribute to the late Frankie Knuckles, who passed away last week at the age of 59. The Chicago-based house pioneer who released records on the Chicago-based TRAX label, including "Your Love," which he co-produced in 1987.

This week, another huge influence in the EDM world passed away as house pioneer Frankie Knuckles succumbed at age 59. He was a huge influence to not only the house community, but also the EDM community as a whole. Known for his releases on the Chicago-based TRAX label (including "Your Love" from 1987), but this one from 1991 takes the cake, entitled "The Whistle Song." I swore Bob Sinclar sampled the whistling sections in one of his songs?

 



Friday Jukebox 3.7.14

With the 59th edition of the EUROVISION Song Contest (Concours EUROVISION Chansons Europeenes, in Copenhagen this year) a couple months away, the UK will once again have someone with notability in Molly Smitten Downes representing their country on May 10 in the grand final. Smitten Downes is the lead singer of the group Stunt. The group's biggest hit is Raindrops (2005), which incorporates some sampling from Sash! "Encore Une Fois" (just listen to both real closely and you'll see).

For the second year in a row, Loreen Talhaoui's "Euphoria"--the winner at Baku 2012--won the 2013 ESCRadio 250! Thanks to you the fans who voted! "Euphoria" is on her most recent album, Heal, which also features "We Got the Power." Appropriate huh?

Friday Jukebox 6.7.13

Last year was the most recent UEFA EURO tournament, where Spain defeated Italy 4-0. The tournament was shared by sites in Poland and Ukraine.

Twelve years before, it was UEFA EURO 2000, held at sites in two-thirds of the Benelux region. France defeated Italy in the final.

The contrasts between the summer of 2000 to the summer of 2012 is extremely different, and as the UEFA EURO 2000 theme of "Campione" by E-Type suggested, that 2000 was a much better year in electronic music than 2012.

Now that's an 'endless summer!'

Malmo 2013 39 For 39: Ryan Dolan "Only Love Survives"

Guess what! It is the halfway point of the Malmo 2013 '39 For 39' series!

Now it is the 20th of the 39 participants this year in Malmo at LVIII EUROVISION Song Contest. This is "Only Love Survives" by Ryan Dolan, representing Ireland.

This is a good ballad, with some house elements. Take a listen:

This could be a finalist on May 18, but who knows. This is good, and a brilliant effort that heaps more than what Ireland had in 2011 and 2012 with JEDWARD. Hope for the best.

Malmo 2013 39 For 39: Cascada "Glorious"

After the one day hiatus due to the tragedy in Boston after the 117th BAA Marathon, I have decided to continue on with my reviews for all participants of Malmo 2013, the LVIII EUROVISION Song Contest.

The '39 For 39' series is now focusing on Germany. Cascada, who had a top ten hit in the UK in 2004 with a cover of "Everytime We Touch," will represent the country at Malmo. The same three that has been around off and on the past decade are still alive. Listen to "Glorious," a tune that exactly has the vibes of "Euphoria," the winning tune by Loreen Talhaoui from last year, and see if this is just as great as "Euphoria":

To me, it has that same feel, but even better than "Euphoria." Hell, it's even better than "Everytime We Touch," which was a typical AATW tune with AATW beats.

This looks to be a contender for the win. Why? Because of it's raw courage and excitement. The trio has made a statement saying that they're back and better than ever! This is proof.

I also think this is just as good as the epic ballad "Standing Still" by Roman Lob, who represented Germany at Baku 2012. No comparison.

Look for them to try to win it all on May 18 as they perform ONLY in the Grand Final, as one of the 'big six.'

Speaking of 'big six,' next up on '39 For 39' is Bonnie Tyler "Believe in Me."

Since the group Cascada will represent Germany at EUROVISION LVIII at Malmo in May, I thought I'd give a refresher course to let people know that they're still alive. Hence, their cover of Maggie Reilly's "Everytime we Touch" from 2003. A number 2 hit in the UK at the time.

Be on the lookout for their new single "Glorious," which they will perform at ESC 2013.

Jim DeMint's Vacant Senate Seat Goes To...

US Congressman Tim Scott. As handpicked by Gov. Haley herself. I wonder why Gov. Haley didn't even thought about the seat herself?

Remember, Jim DeMint resigned to take a job at the Heritage Foundation. So I think it's a good move for someone like Rep. Scott to take the seat. But who will replace him in the House?

Election Day 2012: A Mini-Guide.

The voting booths are setting up nationwide for Election Day 2012. Several races at the national, state and local levels are up for grabs. Here is a mini-guide to the Elections.

• President. Over two dozen candidates are running to defeat current President Obama. Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, Mitt Romney and others are trying to do so. Obama and Romney are on the ballot in every state. Unfortunately, for the third party and independent voters in Oklahoma, once again, the brain-dead head of elections in that state refuse to let third party and independent voters on the ballot. Maybe for monetary reasons?
• Every House seat is up for grabs. Some whose two years (one term) of their House careers are on the line.
• 33 of the 100 in the Senate are up for grabs. Including in key states such as Missouri, where U.S. Congressman Todd Akin is really listening to the voters and whether or not his 'rape' comment will win him the ticket to the Senate chambers, in the seat currently held by Democrat Claire McCaskill.
• 12 Gubernatorial races nationwide, and in American Samoa.
• Various other races nationwide as well.

If you filled out an absentee ballot before your deadline, I applaud you. If not, get your ass out there Tuesday and vote!

This week's FJ is somewhat related to EURO 2012, because it's the theme song of this year's EURO-"Endless Summer" by German-American Oceana. Great song, even though I think that it shouldn't be the theme since UEFA probably didn't find anybody descent from Poland or Ukraine (except for Gaitana, maybe) to sing the theme. Anyway, enjoy.

The World of US Politics: Episode 1

With the South Carolina primaries behind us (Newt Gingrich won), and Florida up next, one week from today (1.24), it's time to reflect on some things. First off, Ron Paul will continue, even though Rand's resistance from TSA officials (and I must agree with Rand there-FUCK TSA! They damage liberties before you even board the plane!) will not mean anything about Ron's campaign.

Also tonight, it's possibly the last time we'll see U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on Capitol Hill at tonight's State of the Union, because she will officially resign from her House district (serving Tucson, Arizona) to recover from injuries suffered in a shooting last year outside at Tucson Safeway. Her office put out this statement from Rep. Giffords herself:

Good for her. Who's next to resign from Congress?

Anyway, tonight could be President Obama's FINAL State of the Union address as President, featuring a rebuttal from Herman Cain on behalf of the Tea Party! So stay tuned!
