London 2012: The Countdown Series: Beach Volleyball Preview!
19 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. This is a preview of the beach volleyball at the London games.
This is the Horse Guards Parade (pictured), whose picturesque grounds will be filled with sand comes the first week of the Olympics. This will be the venue for the beach volleyball. 24 men and women teams are there this year.
It will be the fifth summer Olympics that beach volleyball will be on the menu. Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, one of the world's top ranked teams (according to FIVB rankings) is the defending Olympic champion from Beijing 2008 on the men's side. At Beijing, they defeated Marcio Araujo and Fabio Luiz Magalhaes in the final.
On the women's side, Kerri Walsh and Misty May Treanor are the defending Olympic champions. They are the only team to win more than once in Olympic beach volleyball.
