Puerto Rico, a US dependent, has participated in the summer Olympics since 1948. Six medals have been won by Puerto Rican athletes in these summer games.
Of those six, no gold medals. However, only one of those medals was a silver. It happened in the men's lightweight final (boxing) at Los Angeles 1984, when Luis Ortiz lost in the 2nd (it might have been the third) round to Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker.

The remaining five medals for Puerto Rico are all bronze medals. Juan Venegas brought home Puerto Rico's first medal at London 1948, when the boxer defeated Alvaro Vincente (ESP) for third place in the men's bantamweight class. The most recent medal for Puerto Rico is that of boxer Daniel Santos, who won bronze at Atlanta 1996 in the men's welterweight class.
As of now, ten Puerto Rican athletes are headed to London to compete in four events, including athletics and swimming events as well as wrestling.
