Sochi 2014: The Countdown Series: Mongolia

54 days remaining until the opening ceremonies (53 until the first day of competition) at Sochi 2014. Up next on the countdown: Mongolia.

Mongolia made their winter Olympics debut at Innsbruck 1964, and has sent athletes to the winter games ever since, with the exception of Innsbruck 1976. The Mongolian contingent in the winter games competed mostly in cross country and speed skating, but no medals were won.

As of now, no participation for Sochi from Mongolia, but could change.

115 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Next up on the parade of nations: Mongolia (MGL).

Mongolia has participated in the summer Olympics since 1964. 19 medals have been won by Mongolian athletes in these summer games, with two of those being gold medals.

Both of Mongolia's two Olympic medals were won at Beijing 2008. Judoken Naidan Tuvshinbayar (pictured) defeated Askhat Zhitkeyev (KAZ) in the men's half-heavyweight final, while boxer Enkhbatyn Badar Uugan defeated Yankiel Leon (CUB) in the men's bantamweight final.

As of now, 10 Mongolian athletes are headed to London to compete in five events, including boxing as well as various athletics and swimming events.
