Vienna 2015, 60th ESC 40 For 40: Maria Olafsdottir "Unbroken"

The road to Vienna is a few weeks away! Up next is my review of the teen Maria Olafsdottir (pictured), with Unbroken (Iceland).

Iceland has had some good stuff the past few years, but this is not one of them. It is very reasonable, despite the guitar flow. Her voice is too mainstream, but could appeal to the those who are fans of crappy mainstream music. In other words, I don't think she will perform on grand final Saturday. However, she will perform in the second semifinal on May 21.

Copenhagen 2014 Reviews: Pollaponk "Enga Fordoma"

Pollaponk (pictured) could be one of the most colorful acts in the history of the ESC, with a great song is there to boot. They will represent Iceland in Copenhagen with "Enga Fordoma."

"Enga Fordoma"--translated from Icelandic to English as "without prejudice" is a great song that is all punk and no substance. This is another example of a song that is worth listening to at an ESC. All killer, no filler. 100% punk. Goes down hard.

These guys will perform in the first semifinal on Tuesday, 6th of May. My gut feeling is that this song will make it to the grand final on the following Saturday, the 10th of May. As far as Iceland in ESC goes, there have been some good songs before, including Pall Oskar's "Minn Hinsti Dans" (My Last Dance), which is to me the best ESC song of the 20th Century (1997). This song will be up there on the best of ESC list for sure. I hope they make the grand final.

Sochi 2014: The Countdown Series: Iceland

75 days remaining until the opening ceremonies (74 until the first day of competition) of Sochi 2014. Up next on the countdown: Iceland.

Iceland made their winter Olympics debut at St. Moritz 1948, and has sent athletes to every winter Olympics games with the exception of Sapporo 1972. The Icelandic contingent competed mostly in Alpine events, but no medals were won.

As of now, no representation for Sochi on behalf of Iceland as of yet.

Malmo 2013 39 For 39: Eypor Ingi Gunlaugsson "Eg a Lif"

Almost halfway in the Malmo 2013 '39 For 39' series, as the focus shifts to the Icelandic entry this year-"Eg a Lif" by Eypor Ingi Gunlaugsson.

"Eg a Lif" is a nice ballad, that is very moving. Take a listen:

I really think it should make the final. It is strong enough to show up on May 18 in the Grand Final.

Also I wouldn't say it is better than "Never Forget," by Jonsi and Greta Salome Stefansdottir, which represented Iceland at Baku 2012. I found in comparison that "Never Forget" is the supreme track, but I hope Eypor the best at Malmo.

London 2012: The Countdown Series: Iceland

140 days to go until the first day of the London Olympics. Up next on the parade of nations: Iceland (ISL).

Since 1912, they have participated in the summer Olympics. Four medals have been won by Icelandic athletes in these summer games.

Although Iceland has no gold medals in these summer games, they have two silvers to account for. Vilhjalmar Einarsson (pictured) is the only Icelandic athlete in the summer Games with an individual silver medal. He earned the silver in the men's triple jump at Melbourne 1956. Their only other silver was by their men's handball team, after their loss in the final to France at Beijing 2008.

Two bronze medals have been won by Icelandic athletes at the summer games-Bjorni Frioriksson and Vala Flosadottir. Frioriksson, a boxer, earned bronze in the men's half-heavyweight at Los Angeles 1984, while Flosadottir earned bronze in the women's pole vault at Sydney 2000.

As of now, 6 Icelandic athletes will compete in two events at London, in various swimming and athletics events.
