Sochi 2014: The Countdown Series: Colombia

97 days to go until the opening ceremonies at Sochi 2014. Up next on the countdown: Colombia.


Colombia made its winter Olympics debut at Vancouver 2010, sending only one athlete.


Cynthia Denzler (pictured) was Colombia's lone representative at Vancouver 2010, competing in both the women's giant slalom and the regular slalom. She was also Colombia's first winter games athlete, although she didn't win a medal.

As of now, no Colombian has qualified for Sochi, but it could change.

London 2012: The Countdown Series: Colombia

174 days to go until London. Next up on the parade of nations: Colombia (COL).


The country has participated in the summer Olympics since 1932 and their athletes have won 11 medals: a gold, three silver and seven bronze.


Maria Isabel Urrutia, whose roots were in athletics, is to this day, the only gold medalist in any Olympic games from Colombia. She won the women's heavyweight class in weightlifting at Sydney 2000.

As of now, 88 Colombian athletes in 11 events, including athletics, boxing, cycling, football, swimming, taekwondo and wrestling.
