Joe 'String Music' Dean Sr, 83, Former Basketball Player, TV Color Analyst & Athletic Director
Link.
A former hoops player at LSU, he inked a deal after his collegiate career with Converse. However after his playing career, it was his television color analyst gig that made him famous, with phrases such as "string music."
For two decades, he was color commentator for various men's basketball games, primarily in both the Southeastern Conference and NCAA tournament games as well, for outlets including NCAA Productions, NBC Sports, Turner, Eddie Einhorn's TVS, SPI/LORIMAR-Telepictures & Raycom-Jefferson Teleproductions.
He quit television to take over as LSU's athletic director in 1987. The rest is history.
